Hello
My 26 yr old son was diagnosed yesterday with Crohns in his colon so far. He is having a CT scan since they can't get the scope in further to check if it is elsewhere. He has had an ulcer in his mouth for near a month now as well.
They started him yesterday on 30mg prednisone. Reading here that might be too low? He is on that strength for 7 days then sees his GI doc again to evaluate how well he is tolerating it. She will adjust as needed and might at that time she said lower him to 20mg for another 7 days then 10mg etc. I assume while starting the first attempts at other meds. It is too new yet to know the plan. He is having more blood work in the morning at the hospital and that scan is to happen within the week too. I just wondered if that is an alright level of pred to start with in your experiences. He is covered in ulcers in his colon. The pictures were quite startling and scary.

:welcome:Hello and welcome to the forum. I hope your son will join as well. Sorry I'm not on prednisone, but I did want to welcome you to the forum. There are many here who are and I'm sure they will be able to help answer your questions. I hope your son can get some relief soon. Tell him to hang in there. Try not to worry to much he will find the right meds to help him.

It really depends on the severity but most poeple start at 40mg but we are not doctors and we all differ. As a general rule most people have their symptoms go away within a few days on 40mg or more and it holds until you get to 20mg and in hopes a maintenance drug kicks in. Prednisone is not a nice drug, so the less anyone is on it the better. Yes it works and it is cheap but has so many side effects and both my doctors really hate that since i have exhausted all meds, I was on Prednisone too many times and I am paying for it a bit. If he isnt rid of his symptoms within a week, most likely it needs to be tweaked. :hang:
