I have recently been diagnosed with crohn's disease..... does anyone here follow a special diet??? I have not been given any dietry advise x

Welcome!

I do not personally follow any special diet, right now I eat what I can tolerate. The unfortunate thing about Crohn's is that the foods people can tolerate vary wildly. Some Crohnie's can eat vegs or fruit, I can't tolerate them right now even cooked, except for bananas. A soft food diet can be helpful if you are suffering from inflammation.

I know that there are a lot of people on this forum who are doing special diets either on their own, or through their GI. My GI has never said anything about diet, which I think is a little irresponsible of him, but I am limited to a few docs in a small area.

If there are foods that you can eat that don't cause pain, (or too much pain), start with those and gradually add things. If you do it this way, you can generally tell what it is that is upsetting your gut. I've gotten to the point now where I can just look at something and my tum goes "no way!"

If you can't get anywhere with your GI, you could try a dietician or nutritionist. My insurance won't cover these but some have access to them. Good luck!

Hi there
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but glad you found your way here. Support for newbies is amazing. There is no standard diet as good and bad foods vary from person to person, but if you check out the Diet and Fitness subforum, you'll get some good insights and ideas.
What meds are you on?

I dont follow any special diet! I wish I had dietary advice. But, I've ordered a few books with recipes, like What to Eat with IBD, and Crohns and Colitis Diet Guide.

We're all soooo different in what we can tolerate. But during a flare, I sure stayed away from fiber, steak, or anything in the least bit hard to digest. I loved Ensure Plus, and still do! Soup, water, water, water, and more soup. But that only during a flare.
