I was put on ambien when I was on pres. now it feels like I can't sleep without it. Is anyone else on this, and did you get off?

I only needed a couple of sleeping pills in the hospital over my 1 week stay when they had bumped my IV steroids up to 60mg. At that point I couldn't sleep at all without a pill and was totally restless throughout the day. It was a weird and irritating sensation though; being ancy from the steroids, but drowsy and groggy from the gravol, sleeping pills and pain meds.
In any case, I stopped taking sleeping pills and to help me sleep now I eat a special cookie (dope infused) which knocks me out in about an hour and keeps me asleep through the night. No side effects the next day either like with sleeping pills. Hope this helps. I know it's not for everyone and some are not used the the idea, but there's not much more someone who can't sleep or eat can ask for than a sleep and appetite stimulant that carries no side effects. Good luck!

I tried ambien and it gave me nightmares, and I would get up and eat at least once a night. I was half asleep when eating. Anyway I have had insomnia for years and now I'm on Lunesta. It does make me hungry, but not as bad as the ambien. I may have a snack before I go to bed but don't get up in the middle of the night anymore. I know what you mean about not being able to sleep without them tho. I tried once to stop and was awake for 3 days. I just accept it as part of my night meds anymore. Good Luck.

Yeah, I am trying to stay off the medication; I couldn't sleep at all last night, than when I finally did...I was SO tired that getting up was not possible. I ended up being late to a meeting, but it all worked out. I am going to try again tonight.
