I am 45 but my bloods are not showing that I am menopausal, yet my periods have stopped completely. I have lost weight, but I am not underweight, BMI is 20. Could this be IBD related?

A BMI of 20 is to the low end of normal. It might that even though the typical woman would be healthy at your weight, your body naturally weighs a bit more in ideal circumstances. If you lost weight quickly, that can cause periods to stop too.

How long is it since they stopped?

do you have any scar tissue around the fallopian tubes? any cysts on the ovaries, do you have endometriosis, PCOS, or fibroids?? have you been checked by your Gyn and had a limited sonogram done to make sure there is nothing that's preventing your Aunt Flo??

if you haven't seen your Gyn, I'd get in and have him take a look to rule out the above mentioned problems.

I have had ultrasound scans and apart from a tilted uterus nothing wrong! I have asked my GI consultant and he does not seem to know either.
I put it down to my weight loss,
kind of feel that seeing a gyn as well as a GI is going to be too much.
I don't think anything is wrong, just odd they stopped.

A gynaecologist has a very different area of expertise from a gastroenterologist, and will specialise in different medical conditions. I think it's definitely worth seeing both, if you can. Your periods stopping may have nothing to do with Crohn's.

I will speak to my doctor, bet they will want to shove tube up there to have a look, that'll go with the colonoscopy and OGD I am due soon and the cystocopy I had to have earlier last year :(
Why can't I have something obvious!!!!!
Sorry guys on a downer today. I am sure I will be fine tomorrow x
Thanks for your replies and interest x

I've had my period stop for a year too. Twice, actually. Both stoppages occurred when my Crohn's was really actively flaring and out of control. I lost a lot of weight and was underweight (lost 25 percent of my body weight over 6 months). I was also severely iron-deficient due to the loss of blood from internal inflammation.

My period returned the first time when I started on Remicade, which wrangled the Crohn's for a little while. My period stopped again when the Remicade started losing efficacy. Since I started Humira a year ago (and it has been an effective treatment), my period has been normal. I was in my mid-20's during those times my period stopped. To be honest, after I got over the worry that something was wrong with my reproductive system, I was a little happy to not have to deal with getting my period every month while I was suffering with active Crohn's.

Hopefully your doctor can examine you/run tests to determine what might be causing your periods to stop. It sounds like it could be anything. Good luck!
