Hi everyone - an emergency question so I started a new thread!
Freddy has his colonoscopy, gastroscopy and biopsies booked for tomorrow, I have been following the protocol down to the last detail, much to my surprise he gluged down the 25ml of picolax at 9.30am - I have been ready with extra nappies and changes of clothes - 2 hours later - still not even a wiff of a poo - is this normal???? without laxative he normally goes more than this!!!!what do I do - I don't want to have to go through this all again because they cant see anything on the scope because he hasn't washed put properly!
Also a slightly odd thing - I thought he would be really miserable today as he can't eat anything - but he is the happiest I have ever seen him! - anyone else found this?

Sometimes it takes a while...when I had my prep I remember falling asleep waiting for it to work...I finally got up and tried to go and was able...I am guessing with some more time it will work. IDK about him being happy with no food...but I am glad he isn't miserable!!!
Good luck tomorrow...hoping you get some answers! :ghug:

It took a few hours to kick in for O also. Glad he is happy! Hope it continues and that all goes well tomorrow.

OK - I'm glad it took a while for others also!! I phoned the gastro nurse and she said the same, the plan is I am going to give him the second dose early and then will give a third if there is still no joy!!!! Maybe there is just not much to come through, with the low residue diet his poo is just basically small amounts of smelly water anyway! fingers crossed the next dose will work!!

The couple of times that my son had had to fast for testing he as always claimed to feel better. I think it is because there is no food moving through the intestines to cause pain.

Good luck with the scopes.

Didn't have that problem with my son so no advice. Just wanted to say good luck for the scopes!!

Lucy was really slow to go aswell, I brought her for a brisk walk and gave her plenty of water and she went then. Also if you feel he hasn't fully emptied let them know tomorrow and they will give him an enema ( this happened with Lucy). Wish you hte very best of luck tomoroww will be thinking of you.

It took my son hours to go after we started his bowel prep and I was so afraid that it wasn't working but he did finally go and he only went a few times but he still was able to clean out good and everything was fine. Hope things work out well for you!

Phew! the second dose of picolax he just wouldn't take so I had to try by syringe and luckely he took it mostly ok - absolutely no way was he going to take the third dose though (and I don't think he will want to drink lemonade for a very long time!!) - however we have had a bit of very watery almost clear stuff - I guess thats what he needs to pass? - normally he passes very stinky large volume diarrhoea so I guess I was expecting some kind of explosion and the leaflet said be ready anytime after taking the picolax so I suppose I expected it to work quicker.
I hope we never have to do this again!
So it's just tomorrow to get through - I hope they don't find anything, but also I hope that if there is anything that should be found it is found - if that makes any kind of sense!!
Thanks to everyone for their support, I have no family living nearby (and my mum seems to have a 5 minute max phone call rule!), no one else I know has been through something similar to this with their little one, so its great to be able to ask questions and gain support from people who have been through similar experiences. So thank you all so much!

Thank you and every one for posting questions and concerns. Little farm girl is just starting her journey (in a month or two) into this new world of test and procedures. It makes the unknown a little less scary.
I hope all goes well for your boy!:rosette2:

Thank you Farmwife - I feel so lucky I found this forum - it really does help so much! Good luck to Little Farm Girl and I hope her journey goes smoothly and you get some answers. xx

Just think - we'll both be in hospital with our kids tomorrow. Will send some warm thoughts your way! At least Yorkhill has great fish and chips - Andrew has already told me he wants that once he's allowed to eat again :)

Sascot - I didn't realise you will be in hospital today too - am sending lots of (slightly belated) good luck wishes your way - and enjoy the fish and chips!! - I have started one last new thread with Freddy's update - thank you so much for everyones wishes!!
