What option is there when prednisone, remicade, and pretty much everything else fails? I just finished a 6 week session of prednisone a couple of weeks ago, and had my last remicade infusion a few weeks ago as well, and my symptoms keep returning. these seem to be only temporary fixes, and i have a feeling the S word (surgery) is going to come up soon, which i wish to avoid at all costs, because I start my next semester of college on august 31, and missing more than a week would cause me to have to drop the semester on medical leave, due to my major. sigh................:depressed:

I have failed lots of drugs, too - Pentasa, Imuran (alone and in combination with lots of other things), Humira, Remicade, and Entocort, and am pretty much steroid-dependent at this point. I am probably going to give methotrexate a try next month when I go back to the GI doc. Have you tried methotrexate yet?

Have you thought about giving the Specific Carbohydrate diet a try along with VSL#3 and LDN? I also notice when I do a lot of aerobic activities my symptoms get better.

I know this isn't the traditional approach but if you've tried everything and nothing is working it might be worth a shot. I'm 2 weeks in and it seems to be helping me a so far.

Lisa- I've never heard of methotrexate. What is it? I did do the Imuran/Pentasa/etc combo during my last flare-up 7 years ago and wasn't successful. My doc was going to try the Imuran but said it would take too long to even kick in, and my symptoms were so bad at that point that I did not have the time to wait that long because I had to finish up the tail-end of my second semester of college, but thanks!

AVS- I'm not sure what the specific carbohydrate diet is, but I was just recently diagnosed with hypoglycemia which apparently is a precursor to diabetes, so i'm supposed to be on a low-carb, low-sugar diet. What's VSL#3 and LDN? And yes, exercise i'm sure would make me feel better, once my symptoms start to at least lessen I will definitely be working out again, but right now it's hard for me to really do anything at all.

Thanks!

Try What I did to Get Rid of Crohns- No Pharmaceuticals

Hello,

I posted a little more than a week ago about the phenomenal success that I had in ERADICATING (colonscopy results as proof) Crohns and IBS by Megadosing Aloe Vera Juice. The juice has pollysaccharides which actually heal the tissues in the small and large intestines.

One other posting in response to mine ("10 Years Later ..A Possible Cure or Crohns) also substantiated my findings in part by saying that taking aloe vera juice in small portions did indeed improve his condition.

I don't trust doctors who dole out prescription drugs unless I'm in a near death situation or have broken bones. Most doctors are not well versed in vitamin and supplement orientations. They have an umbilical cord tied to the pharmaceutical companies. I'd tried Acasol and others with no help. I've studied supplements for 20 years.

Do a web search for Aloe Vera, healing, properties, etc. See for yourself. Be proactive. STAY AWAY FROM CAFFIENE. Caffiene will continue to make your condition worse while you are trying to improve it.

No drugs have had any positive impact on me yet. I've tried
asacol, colazal, prednisone, and remicade. Just stared tysabri last week but I'm hoping the aloe vera juice does the trick like RichardO is taking about. I'd rather not take another infusion again.

Please let us know if it works for you or not. Many people are running out of options and it never hurts to have another one.

Good Luck

Dan

Go For it.....Let your Crohns Heal w/o pills.....

Ms. Harvey,

It would be awesome if you could repeat my "experiment". Utilize the 32 ounces of the aloe per day. It will cost you around $120 for the full spectrum treatment if you go the full two weeks. Incidentally, I usually carried the bottles with me to work and drank about 1/5 per sitting with 4-5 sittings per day. I also had days where I drank half in the morning and half in the evening. It really will depend on the best aloe vera juice (I could not really stomach the "jel") that you can find that tastes okay to you. Remember, there are several different brands. Good luck shopping.

I do not know if you drink coffe or not. However, I am convinced through my own treatments that coffee will damage your colon and interfere with the treatment. Wait until you have this under control (and hopefully cured) before getting back on the caffeine. It really is damaging and makes Crohns and IBS worse.

Incidentally, could you tell me how to "post' my picture on this website so that it shows up with my "postings' like everyone elses? I've tried many times and do not apparently understand how to do it.

Thanks Richard, at this time, I can't afford the Aloe Juice, I'm a 19 year old college student :( but hopefully in the near future I can find a way to obtain it!
