not a blockage but whats going on

I have been having a different type of pain i have never felt before. For the most part it is constant. It moves all around from my lower abdomen to my rectum to my lower back. At times its sharp crampy achey and i feel alot of pressure. I have a stricture in my terminal ilieum. I have never had surgery or a blockage. I have been on prednisone 20mg for 4days and increased yesterday to 30 after telling my doctor about the cramping pain. He didn't explain what is causing the pain could it be from the stricture? He did say if I get severe pain or fever go to ER. But now I am scared wondering if the pain is going to get worse and the pain is annoying like a tooth ache. Ps...I was diagnosed in may2011 so all this is still new to me.

Hi, it could definetly be down to the stricture, you have a narrowing and 'stuff' is trying to get through it.....this will not be comfortable. How are things now? If it has gotten worse you may need to see someone urgently to make sure the stricture has not gotten worse and is becoming a total blockage. I assume you will now be having surgery to sort this?

Still doing the same. Its constant cramping. Wake up with it and go to bed with it. I know its not completely blocked because I am going to the bathroom. Almost called the Dr but I have a $1000 deductable before insurance pays and I assume he would only send me to ER. Thank you for your responce the thought of surgery is very scary.

It is not great but once that stricture is out things do tend to feel soo much better. Another thought is perhaps speak to your IBD nurse about going on liquids only for a while, this isn't ideal but this will obviously go through the narrowing more easily and whilst it may not get rid of all the pain it may help ease things. Leading up to my op I was on Modulen, I think others have had Ensure. Have a look at our diet forum and there will be more info about these there. Hang in there! Sending lots of hugs
