Hi there

Back in Feb 2013 I was told I would have to take azethioprine every day for 3 years due to the nature of my health at the time, I had kept this up for maybe 4 weeks before the side effects became quite unmanagable in terms of the damage it was doing to my skin / depression.

I kind of just stopped taking the drug gradualy till I felt better dispite Dr's recommendations and now I have been completely symtom free since March and very healthy without the side effects of drugs, I relise this was a high risk move on my part but I'm not very receptive to illness till it hospitalises me anyway so it wasn't to hard for me to make that choice.

Overall I felt I have got lucky nothing bad as happened but I am still interested that nothing has considering my original health and plan to be on azethioprine for many years, I have scars all over my body from the side effects of the meds and my health has improved since not bothering with them although I needed a lot to begin with to remiss in the first place.

What are your thoughts on this choice and the results (feel free to tell me how stupied I am also) ?

Keep searching for healthy ways to improve your health. It is not uncommon that medicines cause other reactions to the body, so perhaps that drug was not for you. Focus on healthy foods/drink in your body and continue to research positive/healthy lifestyle to create a better belly for yourself. Good luck!

Even though most physician won't be enthralled by the idea of leaving a patient without maintenance treatment, some rare will accept the choice and work in collaboration to make sure the symptoms are not going over the rail in a indomitable way. I believe it is important that the GI knows about it though as the management needs to be adjusted to that situation.

There is not only one right way to deal with crohn disease. Just make sure your condition is in control.

Thanks for the reply's, my Dr and I are in communication on a regular basis so I'm still being monitored and kept up to date. Healthy eatting and exercise is important and is something I stick to every day to help keep my condition under control and I'm glad that it is possible.

I'm also glad to read on here that other people are in control dispite the many variations of the Illness.

It's definitely a risk but I can understand wanting to be off of meds. I think it's a gamble but as long as your GI knows and you are having routine MRI/CT scan and colonoscopies and keep on top of it, if it does return you can act quickly.
