Not sure if I am flaring

For about 2 days I was having horrible abdominal pain, going to the bathroom nonstop, having constant cold chills, lost all energy, sleeping all day, and losing appetite. Now today I feel drastically better. I still have some pain but fell much better than the previous days. I guess my real question is how long do flare ups typically last for you and your symptoms of flare ups?

It's different from person to person but for me, a flare typically lasts at least a year. Now you can experience symptoms like the ones you mentioned even if you're in remission. For me the symptoms only last for a couple days to a few weeks. But I also have more mild constant symptoms such as diarrhea but I don't have pain or anything else along with it. For me this has become normal. I was diagnosed 20 years ago and have only had 3 flares yet do experience symptoms from time to time.

Well, I was in a flare up for ten months last year into this year, and experienced all of your listed symtpoms - however, I remember I would have a day here and there where I was indeed very functional and had some relief. That's not to say the flare was over, unfortunately, and symptoms would return.

Likewise, I can tell I'm close to or even in remission now when I'm not experiencing those symptoms - that being said - there will be the occasional day when I suffer and need to baby myself.

I consider more good days than bad to be remission, and more bad days than good to be flaring. Have to remember, you have the disease, and so - meds or no meds, you're going to be reminded of it from time to time! Baby yourself and see if you're feeling better soon - if not, call the doc because it could be a flare up on its way or already full speed ahead.

Hope you get relief! :)

When I have a flare, my symptoms are the same as yours, tflock. In the past three years, the only break I've had from those symptoms was for about four months. But I consider myself to be in a flare because I just haven't had a reprieve from abdominal pain, massive numbers of D, fevers, chills, loss of appetite, etc. for over a year. Alongside these symptoms, I also have joint pain, stomach distension, abdominal masses, and recurring fistulas, fissures and abscesses. While I consider myself as having a flare, I also name it as having moderate to severe Crohn's.

Like ShannonSankey, I would consider myself to be in remission or at least having a mild case of Crohn's if I were having more good days than bad ones. And where the 'bad days' come and go rather quickly.

During the 4 years I was in remission sometimes I'd have a one hour or a one day flareup. That happened maybe 3 times in four years. Could have been food poisoning for all I knew, eating college cafeteria food...

Lately I've been flaring for about a week, then fine for a week, flare for a week, fine for a week, for the last two months. It's toying with me I think. Sometimes it's hard to tell whats doing it. May pay off to restrict your diet down to soft and white foods. Cut out dairy and fruits and veg, sodas and fast food if you eat them. That may or may not be helping me.. I'm nearing the end of my good week, hoping to see if it will carry over to the next. Good luck!

thanks for the advice everyone. I havent been in remission ever. I was only DX in April but had symptoms for over a year. I was just worried that maybe things were getting much worse than they already were. I have noticed that I basically have a good week and then a bad week also. Thanks for answering my question!
