not told about Crohns

hi everyone, In 1975, I had an abcess removed from my bowels, also some bowel cut away. it was a touch & go situation, but I recovered well. But over the period of 30yrs I had quite a bit of trouble with my bowels, I lived In Scotland at this time. Tho tests were done, nothing was found & It was put down to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I would also get Cystitus & there was always protein In the sample I took. Well, In Sept. last year I had to move back to my origins & had a lot of stress. 3weeks ago I started to vomit, then got diarroeh & was passing blood! I ended up In hospital & was told I had Crohns Disease, probably since 1975! I've just recently had a Colonoscopy done & a Biopsy, because my bowel was inflamed. Am now waiting for the results with trepidation! I feel let down by not being told I had this condition, so therefore could'nt do anything to help myself. & now at 67 I feel Its too late.

Hi there
and welcome

You are no longer alone with this awful disease, lots of people here now to help, support and advise you.
It is a hard disease to diagnose and I was misdiagnosed too for 15 years so know how you feel, but it's not too late, once they get you on the right meds, things should hopefully settle down.
keep us informed and we'll see you around the forum, any questions, just ask
lotsa love

Welcome, my wife (Nicole) and I are new here as well and I can tell you that this is a very well informed and supportive group. I have been researching this disease for 4 months, since my wife was diagnosed and I have read amazing stories of survival at every age. It's never to late. My wife was misdiagnosed for 12yrs so we know what you're going through.
It's all about getting the right system of meds for you.

It's going to be a bit of a trail and error till the GI know what works for you but I recommend you start controlling your diet by keeping a diary (or ledger) of everything you eat so you can track what make upsets you. It's different for everybody so you have to monitor yours... it makes a big difference.

You can control this and live many more years but it's going to take something that we all never did before... paying attention to ourselves. You focus on what you eat and reduce your stress (very important) let the meds do the rest.

You're never alone in this just remember that... we're all here for you.
Let me just say it again... reduce your stress and monitor your foods.

God bless

Marlon

Hello and welcome to the forum!
That is a long time to go, since 1975, with so much trouble and pain.
But Crohn's is often mistaken for several other bowel problems.

Please do not feel alone...we are all in the same boat here.
Once you get on the right meds you will be feeling so much better.

I wasn't diagnosed until later in life either...I am now just about your age. :)

Please don't say it's too late....the newer drugs can do so much!
And you will feel so great once you get started on them.
Let us know the results of the biopsy and colonoscopy when you get them.

If you want to email me or PM me please feel free to do so.

Healing hugs and welcoming smiles~Nancy

:welcome:...I am sorry you have potentially been living with this disease for so long....Your story sounds very similar to my Aunt's who is now 68. She had surgery sometime back in the early 1970's....The doctor really did not have a name for what was causing her so much problems, even after removing a large portion of bowel.....Try not to be too angry about it, things were very different 40 years ago....Try to focus on getting healthy and having the best quality of life now. You can't change the past, but you are in control of your future.....If you have any questions about this disease and treatments, just ask. We are happy to answer....:)
