I'm 15 yrs old and I've been diagnosed with crohns for almost 2 years now. I was put on prednisone at first and given pentasa as my medication. Shortly after I had another flare up which put me on prednisone a second time as well as switching to a combination of Entocort and pentasa. I had a flare shortly again after that which put me on prednisone a third time! The side effects from prednisone are terrible and I hate having to go on it!

Then my GI put me on 6mp which was effecting my kidneys so they reduced the dosage. Once again it sent me into a flare and I'm currently weening off if prednisone from that flare. I'm still taking the reduced dosage and I'm at 15 mg of prednisone a day. And I started to have stomach aches and diarrhea!!! I don't know what to do because none of my medications are working and it's really effecting me physically and emotionally. Any advice????

Best advice I can give is to keep your doctor informed. It is unfortunately possible that it's going to take awhile to get under control. My first seven years with crohn's were like that. Your doctor is trying, and maybe you will get a shot a remicade (or similar), and it is possible that it may require surgery. Try to keep as positive an attitude as you can. Probably not what you want to hear, but things could go that way. Best of luck...

I second keeping your doctor informed! It's also a possibility that you could go for some more tests to see if they can figure where you're inflammed. Have you checked out our support group for teens? There might even be some on there who are going through the same things you are. In the meantime, please keep us updated on how you're feeling.

Hello, I've had crohns for 18 years including 2 re-sect surgeries. Having my symptoms very under control now for several years, I cannot stress how beneficial juicing is! Fresh carrots, apples, brocolli, kale, and asparagus are staples in my daily juicing. I won"t try listing what juicing has done for me as it would take all night...Give it a try....good luck to you friend...getting things under control CAN be done...I have done it! .....DGH

What is your diet comprised of? I need a sample of everything you ingest for a 5 day period. This includes tap water, bottled water, etc. Everything.

Right now what you can do: Buy 3 lemons. Squeeze every drop of juice out of those and dilute it 1:2 with water or 1:3. ex. 1 part juice 3 parts water

Drink all of this over the course of 1-2 hours and tell me how you are feeling.

If you have no problems I would then ask you to grate some carrot over some spring mix or spinach. Some type of raw salad. Chew thoroughly. Apple cider vinegar + olive oil makes a great light dressing.

What I am attempting to do is alkalize your body so that your colon can hydrate its cells for proper digestion and alleviate all flaring.
