Had my colonoscopy done today and there was no major concerns. Several biopsies were taken. Has anyone else experienced this? I've never had a normal scope. My symptoms aren't terrible at the moment. I'm actually gaining weight even though I'm hardly eating. Yet lost 10 lbs in a week last week. Of course a number of other tests were ordered in trying to figure our where exactly my disease is. Can a colonoscopy appear normal but pathology show otherwise? I had terrible pain after the scope and had to stay to check for perforation because I was passing large clots from the biopsies I gudss?

Anyone? I have no clue why they didn't do an upper endo and the same time grr

You can have a colonoscopy that looks 'visibly' fine but biopsies may confirm microscopic inflammation. Also keep in mind, if all looks well visually, my understanding is that the GI just takes biopsy samples 'randomly'; as crohns inflammation can be patchy, it is possible that even the biopsy may come out normal if it misses a patch of microscopic inflammation. :ymad:

Another limitation of a colonoscopy is that it can only reach a short distance into the small bowel, so it is also very possible to have inflammation in your small bowel that can't be seen by a scope. Alternatives to a scope can be an MRE which may show inflammation or narrowing in your small intestine or a pill cam (capsule endoscopy), which is a small camera that you swallow (pill) and it will send pics as it travels through your intestinal system (including the small bowel). However, both of these tests also have limitations.

DS had normal looking scopes including at dx - biopsied told a different tale.
With granulomas etc...
Hope you get results soon

Just happened to me. I've been in the midst of a bad flare, horrible symptoms, and my scope still came back clean. The biopsies showed inflammation though. I'd wait for those results. At least for me, my scopes never showed any visible ulcerations, etc. unless I was sick enough to be hospitalized, and obviously it's ideal to stop things before they get to that point. Doc also had me do a CT after the scope, so there might be other tests that'll show more.
