Now starting Remicade

Well , I have now been told I will be put on Remicade before the end of the year. I just want to know how will I feel on the day of the infusion? I babysit in my home, should I prepare to take the day off when I go for infusion? Thanks, mrjmom

It works different on everyone.

I would take the day off maybe even 2 days

Depends, I say you should be fine just having half day off... as long as they only give you one benedryl, if they give you two then you'll be pretty sleepy.

I was tired after my first infusion due to the Benadryl. For my second infusion I had my doctor approve Claritin instead, and I wasn't sleepy afterwards.

I've had 2 Remicade infusions now, and have felt fine after each one (had 1 Benadryl with each). I would probably go ahead and take the day off, though, just in case, as everyone is different!

if you can, schedule your Remi in the afternoon so you can work in the morning and take the rest of the day off. you never know what will happen at your first infusion, so just be prepared for feeling either wiped out, or perfectly fine. good luck with your infusion!

Pretty much the only problem is the Benadryl. If they put you on that, you probably should take the day off just as a precaution. It used to make me exhausted for the entire day, but everyone takes to it differently. The first day you do it, you should definately take off and then see how you do the rest of the day. If you feel normal then it's up to you if you want to take the day off. Like I said before, I would advise taking the day off anyway primarily because you're taking care of children and if you get home and have a bad reaction or get sleepy you have to worry about the children as well.
