hi all,
since having pancreatitis last year i barely drink but i got carried away at a family funeral last wk. i had 7 or 8 bottles of cider. the next day and this is the 1st time this has ever happened, i felt dizzy and sick. i tried to get up and get a cup of tea and the room would go black so i lay down on the floor and that happened twice so i stayed in bed. when i eventually made it to the bathroom i started vomitting until my stomach hurt. once i got it out of me i felt fine and recovered normally. any thoughts?
i take remicade and 6mp and before being on them i was able to drink alot more and was fine. do you think my liver cant handle it anymore.

6-mp uses your liver to break down the medication. Alcohol also taxes your liver because the liver is where your body cleanses toxins from the blood. You sound like your tolerance level has lowered and your liver was more likely than not working overtime.

I used to be a regular social drinker. I still drink here and there, but I have had to cut back significantly since on 6-mp because I do notice that I feel much worse the next day if I have one too many drinks especially those with a high alcohol content.
I had a talk with my GI about drinking alcohol before starting 6-mp and was told that one or two drinks here and there may be fine, but you shouldn't go overboard with it because your liver will suffer the consequences.

I'm not on 6mp but I am on azathioprine. I used to be able to drink like a champ but now, like you, booze makes me feel so awful. When I have a couple beers or a shot or two, I seem to get hyperactive and flushed and then the next morning iI always feel so shaky and unwell. I get super nauseous and lightheaded and its the worst. I ddon't want to swear off drinking but I think I might have to now!

you could be right patricia but i didnt get any shoulder pain or the usual cranky panky symptoms. had my lft's done last week and they're the best they've ever been. so no sign of damage. it was most likely the cider. i normally drink wine or vodka.

hetzbaby, yup, im sworn of the drink now. who needs it! (eeek)

thanks ladies
