Hi, so I have been given these drinks to help me gain weight but they have milk in and milk upsets me I'm worried but the doctor said try them. Do you think they will be ok?

Yes, I think they will be okay. If you have trouble with lactose, go for the lactose reduced ones. Otherwise, if you don't have milk allergy, there is no reason why milk should upset you. If you are flaring, probably anything would upset your tummy to some extent, so go for it and give it a try.
Important notice: Try to drink it very slowly or even add water to it, otherwise it leads to diarrhoea.

Even a high fat content that many people are concerned about in "normal" food would not be a problem in the pre-digested enteral drinks, certain omega-formulas are even very anti-inflammatory (e.g. ModulenIBD).

I would be more concerned about the high sugar content, my nutritionist is of that opinion. High dairy content and high fat content, as well as high protein content is very beneficial for IBD, I learned.

A lot of nutrional drinks have "milk" as a protein but depending on the drink the protein can be more broken down and easier for the Gi tract to digest
Boost/ensure are both whole proteins but are lactose free
Peptide and peptamen are semi elemental formulas that are milk based , lactose free but the whole protiens are broken down into even smaller pieces
Neocate Jr /elecare Jr /e028 are elemental formulas which are broken down into amino acids ( what your body normally breaks food down into ) so very little work is needed by the digestive tract . Theses are the easiest and are free of the top eight allergens including milk
They are however extremely hard to drink by mouth due to the foul taste and are the most expensive .

Good luck

It's worth a try. I can't stress how important these drinks are to me both when flaring and when im healthy to stay on track.

Oh God, I remember neocate. I was one of the first to try them for crohns/colitis before they "improved" the taste! Can you believe it was worse! lol
