I've lost twenty pounds in the last thirty-eight days (from 133 to 113). Half of that weight disappeared in the last week. Ever since Monday (three days ago) I've practically been a carnivore.

Diet: I've been eating five to seven boiled eggs per day. On Monday I also had tilapia, meatloaf, mushrooms, and four little things of applesauce. On Tuesday I also had tilapia, three helpings of salmon, chicken, mushrooms, a can of sardines, and three little things of applesauce. Then yesterday I had a can of sardines, half a cup of well-cooked carrots, chicken, mushrooms, and two helpings of salmon on top of my usual six eggs. So far today I've had four eggs, two helpings of salmon, six ounces of meatloaf, a cup and a half of mushrooms, a cup of well-cooked carrots, and chicken.

In my head, it makes no sense to me that eating all this fat and protein still results in weight loss. I'm wondering if this result is from general malabsorption caused by UC/Crohn's, my body just using everything to heal my colon right now, or my not getting some key nutrients from fruit/vegetables necessary to use calories, fats, and proteins in a way that results in a net weight gain. Anyone got any clues?
I'm on IV steroids, too, with the noted side-effect of weight gain, though I know that's really an indirect side-effect.

I've seen a few low carb sights mention this happening - eat all the food wanted, and yet still loose weight. There is a debate over the theory of calories in/ calories out for weight gain or loss. It can be a heated topic, and for good reason as there is a good deal on the line - but regardless, from what I've read big weight loss in the first month is typical when avoiding grains, wheat in particular. After that weight loss often slow down.

A mention on that:

& on calories.

How do you feel on the diet? I know for me eggs seem to be an issue for my gut, causing me to loose weight from D and feel awful.

I am the same boat. I eat 4k of good cals a day and still lost a ton of weight. Went to the doc yesterday to have blood work done and test my thyroid.

try formula
either peptamin - which does not need much healthy intestine to absorb nutirents or E028 splash
peptamin is semi elemental
e028 splash is amino acid based and elemental formula

The best way to gain weight, is too calorie count. Find a website for it, (I use an app on my phone) and put in everything you eat. Make sure everyday that you are getting your goal

I agree on counting cals but its not just that easy. He needs to know how and where to get the cals. A mixture of carbs, protein and fats. Given height, weight, age and BF% helps. Its not just stuffing your face with 2-3k of food.

Sauter if you want some helpful info, PM me. I don't know everything but I use to be a competitive body builder so I know a few things about "bulking" up. I can try to help. Food intake effects everyone different but knowing what your mircos are will help.

Like I said I am kind of in the same boat but my doc thinks its my thyroid.
