Oh gosh this is the most embarrassing question I've ever asked

Ok so let's jump into a sort of embarrassing question. Normally I am not a gassy person. I have a myriad of other symptoms, but gas is not usually one of them. Occasionally (like once every couple of months) I have gas bubbles that cause me chest pain, but nothing like this. The last few days I have been gassy. Like normal than an overly gassy person is gassy. And it isn't just passing gas and no one notices. It's 'holy cow did something just DIE in here!?' kind of gas. It's highly embarrassing, and it's been almost constantly the last few days, and I need to make it stop. I'd also like to know if this could be a sign that there's something else going on inside. Because like I said. This. Is NOT. Normal. At all. And having had Crohns for as long as I've had it, I know that many weird unrelated things can be symptoms of some random thing going on in a seemingly unrelated body part. Anyway, please help, because as a 21 y/o girl in her 4th year of college, I'd like to be taken seriously and not have people run away from me when they smell me approaching. Please please please help! And thanks!

Like you im not very gassy, but i was horrendously gassy and smelly before i stopped taking my allergies seriously. I would have cheese, veg, fruit and like clockwork have bad acid smelling gas. Could it be something like that for you? Maybe even a new allergy? If you have some already..

First of all, nothing is TMI on the forum, so please don't feel embarrassed. We all go through many things that we maybe wouldn't talk about "in real life", but it's safe to talk about on here. :) I promise, nobody on here will be grossed out because we've pretty much all been there & done that ourselves.

You mentioned it's only been going on the past few days - have you had any dietary changes recently? Or med changes, change in dosage of meds, new supplements, anything like that? If nothing springs to mind, then you may want to start a food & symptom diary. I've been doing that myself and it's been quite enlightening (for the record, corn products and duck meat are my worst triggers when it comes to gas - I was like a fart machine after my husband made roast duck for dinner the other night!). Just get a small notebook and jot things down every day - everything you've eaten, how many bathroom trips and what consistency, any and all symptoms you've had. That will help you correlate symptoms to what you've been eating.

I find almost any poultry to be gas producing. I love turkey and my mom's gravy, but I pay for it and then everyone else does! Chicken will do the same quite often for me but not as badly. Peanut butter is the other real doozy. I fared much better with baked beans this year than I anticipated.

Otherwise, here are the producers I would look for: high fat and sugar content food and drinks, alcohol (kills a lot of bowel bacteria and it seems gassy bacteria take over for awhile) medications (same as alcohol), possible infections, change in bowel frequency. The food diary is always a great recommendation.

I had a a lot of gas when I was battling a pretty good stricture. Are any of your other symptoms getting worse? Sadly, the only thing that helped me was not eating before I had to be in public and I eventually had surgery🙁

The times I have the most gas seems to be when I'm in a flare or, we've had some foods that happen to do it. I admit to have cleared a whole isle in a craft store before when I wasn't feeling so good. Have you talked with your doctor about this? He/she might have a few ideas as to what might help you.

That usually tells me I am in for some trouble. Usually a good flare is right around the
corner.

Hope it settles down soon!

One of the IBD nurses I saw in hospital recommended peppermint water to help with gas. Like you, I'm not a gassy person, but did find that it helped.
