Hey Gang,

I've been trolling this forum for a month and decided I should finally say 'Hi'! :sign0144:

I think I've had Crohn's for about 5 or 6 years, but was just diagnosed a month ago after I went into the ER for vomiting and stomach cramps that felt like labor pains. They gave me a CT scan and initially said I was having a gall bladder attack due to a large stone. So I went home with a prescription for pain killers. The next morning another doctor called and said I have a partial bowel obstruction and what looks like Crohn's and to get back there right away.

So I got an appt with my Primary Care Physician and she admitted me. They 'cooled me off' with Cipro, Flagyl and saline and put me on a clear liquid diet for 3 days to prep for a colonscopy which confirmed the Crohn's. I have Fistulating Crohn's of the Ileum and when the GI doc said the meds they will put me on should heal them up I was so pleased. I have a perianal fistula and another fistula that goes from my large instestine to my small intestine.

I've been on a pred taper and am currently at 5mg a day for two more weeks and then 5mg every other day for 2 weeks after that. My GI tried to get my insurance company to approve Cimzia, but they want me to try Humira 1st so I took my 1st dose 2 weeks ago with the pens. The nurse had me do all 4 by myself which was fine. I took my 2nd dose last night and it seemed a little more painful, but all went well.

Anywho, I'm just relieved to know why I've had pain all these years from eating things like corn and raw fruits and vegetables. I always blamed other things like food poisoning, or menstrual cycle, etc. Now I can at least avoid foods that will heighten the symptoms.

I work full time and am married to a caring husband who goes to school part-time and takes care of our 19 month old son while I'm at work.

I'm pleased to meet you all. :D

Welcome! You will find so much information here and a lot of support. Thanks for sharing your story and I look forward to seeing you around : )

Welcome Mellow1!

Glad you decided to join officially. It is good to see you were not on too much prednisone (I believe my max was in the 50-60mg per day range) and hopefully Humira will be effective for you.

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you!

Thanks Dayz and Mikeyarmo. Yah, I was surprised how quickly they diagnosed me. I began at 40mg of pred and started tapering a week later. It's really been a quick process and I'm happy to say that I haven't felt this great since when I was pregnant (I had a wonderful and painless pregnancy). I actually don't mind the prednisone (this time) as I have been extremely motivated lol. Let's just say I'm baking a lot and have an overabundance of Vitamin A fortified muffins. :p

Hi Mellow and welcome! It's great news your doctor caught you had an obstruction before things could have gotten worse. I sure hope your current treatment plan gets you well and keeps you well for many years. You should bop over the the Humira Club to learn from others taking it; I bet you'll learn a lot. Once again, welcome to the forum!

Hi Mellow and welcome!

Glad your Crohn's journey has been relatively smooth so far - in that you got a quick diagnosis and were able to start the Humira quickly, etc. I hope it works for you, it's been a blessing for many on this site!

Nice to have you here. Hope you are feeling better very soon!

- Amy
