Okay so I am out of Remission. Still doing pretty good considering last year, but I am realizing that I am going to have to start eating like a Crohnie again, giving up a lot of the healthy foods that I have come to love. My question is, how do you all get the nutrients you need if you can’t have stuff like veggies and nuts and seeds (I know, I have been so spoiled the last few months!)? I am feeling a little sad for myself having to go back to my old ways, plus I exercise pretty hard (for me) three days a week now, and I want to have the energy to keep that up. Any advice?

I can't eat nuts or seeds either, but I do things like almond milk and almond butter which are pretty easy to digest. If you're working out, you should make sure you get enough protein - things like baked chicken and boiled eggs would be good. Baked fish is good too for the omega 3s. If you can't tolerate raw fruits & veggies, you can try steaming veggies and making fruit smoothies. I hope that helped a little bit. Sorry to hear you're out of remission!

Drink a boost or ensure a day to add in some nutrients. Cat is right also baked chiken and fish are really good for you. Aslo add in some nutrients supplements and ask for your levels to be checked regularly.

Regular multivitamins and supplements are essential for every Crohnie, I think. Our diets are altered so much it's the only way to know for sure you're getting a balanced intake of necessary vitamins and minerals. You also don't feel too bad when you don't feel like eating fish every day. ;)

Make sure you get gel capsules or liquid forms of vitamins as they are easier to digest and break down--thus you are absorbing more!

I use Daily Multi-Sorb soft gels by Country Life. They have a strong vitamin smell and slight taste if you don't swallow them quickly though. ;)

Hi Nicole - just wanted to pop in and say sorry you are having troubles. Ditto what Marisa and Cat said.

Good luck - hope you start feeling better soon!

Are you able to have juiced vegetables/fruits? I make juice as a way of trying to get some of the nutrients without the fibre, and also makes me feel like I'm eating a bit healthier.

Out of remission

Same problem here. Was in remission for nearly two years - while on Revellex(Remicade). Revellex not effective anymore and problems with food same as previously - must go on Crohns diet again, but seems to be a hassle and needs motivation. Waiting for my doctor to motivate for Humira - hopefully medical aid will approve. Had the Pillcam and shows Crohns active again and believe me having bad days - normally 3 out of 7. Good luck

Out of remission

Sorry to hear that too and it's back on the Cronie Diet. The one thing that someone suggested that I really like was adding the almond butter, it's so high in protein and so easy to digest plus it taste really good. The other thing that I have added is a mineral mesosilica that I believe makes me feel better. Of course, as always, check with your physician but anything that makes me feel better and what I call "normal" I'm all for!
