Hi.
Tonight I've been hurting around where my left ovary is. It's been a long time since I've had a pain like this. But, I'm also a bit crampy like on my period. I'm not getting any blood and first day of last period was 4/6. So, shouldn't be that close to bleeding again. I do have a pap scheduled on 5/2. Should I be concerned? Have taken some tylenol in hopes that the aching will go down.

Strange thing is that the aching doesn't seem to be as bad if I'm sitting or laying down. But, when I'm walking around it seems to be the worst. Did have some straining though with my last bm earlier today. So am wondering if maybe I may have bruised myself in some way. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks:)

I wouldn't be too worried, since you do have an appointment coming up. Just be certain to mention it to the doctor then.

I get similar pains from my Crohn's at times - it can be difficult to determine what exactly is causing the pain. Have you ever felt pain from your UC in that area?

Thanks Sarah.

No, I haven't. Just kind of wondered, especially since the tylenol didn't seem to be working. Wondering if I may have sprained myself in some way. We'll see how things go...

I get pain like that. the sigmoid colon is there so could be that you've some inflammation. I also have fibroids and cysts now and again. the cyst pain is like a throb and is continuous for about a day at a time.
theres lots of muscles down around there too and sometimes when I doing a particular sit up with my legs in the air, that area gets really strained and painful.
could also be ovulation pain.
theres millions of possibilities but worth a trip to the gp if doesn't improve.

Perfect timing to be ovulation pain. I never used to get this, but then for the last 4 years or so I get it every month. Sometimes it is a sharp pain, almost as if it is in my rectum, which only lasts a few minutes. Other times it is nearer my ovaries or bladder and can gripe away all day. I often get a headache at the same time.

Mention it when you see your doctor, but I worked out what is was by noting it on my calendar, as well as period dates, and seeing the pattern over a few months.

My poor sister (with no IBD) gets crippled with severe ovulation pain every month.

Another idea is that the pain could be attributed to ovulation called Mittelschmerz. (pronounced Mittle schmerz)

Mittelschmerz is one-sided, lower abdominal pain associated with ovulation. "

"Mittelschmerz" is a German word that means "middle pain." The condition occurs midway through a menstrual cycle — about 14 days before your next menstrual period.

In most cases, mittelschmerz doesn't require medical attention. For minor mittelschmerz discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers and home remedies are often effective. If your mittelschmerz pain is troublesome, see your doctor.

I use to get that all the time when I did get my period. The only thing that helped me was a heating pad and sometimes a pain reliever like Tylenol.

There is also the off chance that you could have a kidney stone...have you ever had them in the past or been checked for them? People with Crohns/colitis are more prone to them forming - I've had multiple!

Yup, I usually go once or twice a day. No, not feeling anything there when I poke around though. But, we do have laptop here on the floor that I use sometimes while my husband's on the other computer and with that in my lap, it does enhance the discomfort a little. Plus, when I have to go (before heading to the toilet) I also feel the pain a bit more.

yes I get something similar. its hard to know if its inflammation in the bowel or if its pressing against something down there. I can always feel my bowel full in that area. its like a large sausage shape. my stools would be formed now though.
Go get it checked. more than likely you'll be waiting around some more after you've told your GP.

I would, but I'm seeing a new doctor next week on 5/2 who's going to do my yearly pap. Figure, I'll bring it up then. I'm hoping that if there's any concern that she'll talk with my GI or at least another doctor. Will let you know what I find out...
