Hi all,

Not sure if anyone is in the Boston area but I stumbled across details of a one day pain management workshop that Boston Children's Hospital run for Youth ages 10-17 with chronic or recurrent pain while doing some searches for material related to Pain Management for Children today and thought I'd share just in case.

The material being covered sound excellent:

I'd not come across this type of program being run for teens before and its fantastic to see that its available. Perhaps other hospitals offer similar things.

Pretty neat !
I'm not in that area of course, but thanks for sharing !
May be something I need to keep in mind for the future to check into here tho :)

Has anyone tried acupuncture? I'm normally not a holistically oriented person. I like the idea of taking a pill and making the problem go away. But we've tried so many pills and none has worked for her pain. So, I've been knocking around the idea of taking Marni to an acupuncturist. Just wondering if anyone has looked into that for their kids.

Of course, Marni, a kid who gets stuck with big needles at least every two weeks, but often more frequently says she doesn't want to go because they'll stick her with needles! LOL. I explained that they are tiny, tiny ones that you can barely feel, but she says no way Jose!

No acupuncture both my hubby and Jack have had some craniosacral massage. Both said they felt better but then maybe it was just a release of stress, relaxation which I guess would help.

Never tried that. I'm not sure Jaedyn would be willing to try it either. We do use essential and find them helpful.

You use "essential"? What is that?

I'm at wit's end trying to help Marni with this pain that has kept her out of school for almost 3 weeks this time around. We're sleep deprived and depressed, and I will do ANYTHING to help her. Tonight, I gave her 1 1/2 Tylenol #3 at 7:45pm hoping it would knock her out and let her sleep through the whole night. It didn't touch her. At midnight, she STILL wasn't asleep and was hurting. So, out of desperation, I gave her one more tablet of Tylenol #3. She FINALLY fell asleep, but of course, now she won't be able to wake up for school. She seemed to be better over the weekend, so I got a little optimistic. How dare I, right? That's all turned south now. Sigh

Sending hugs! We have not tried acupuncture. I approached it with caitlyn and she said no way. The funny thing is my doctor is sending me for acupuncture and I told caitlyn I am taking her to my appt with me so she can see how it works. My appt is not for a while but I will let you all know how it works.

Look at this website about essential oils: www.everythingessential.me. Go to the tab that lets you look up a condition and see what "essential oil" they recommend. I think there is probably a tab about what essential oils are and how they work. We use digestzen and geranium on Jaedyn's tummy to help with cramps, and also geranium oil or cypress oil on joints when they are inflamed and she's had good luck with both.
