Hi all,

Just come back from a&e after spending the whole night in agony, also vomited once and really bloated. Docs could not find any obstruction and my bloods were fine. Doc said I had a lot of gas in my abdomen which could have been causing most of the pain.

It started exactly an hour after I had my dinner and then started subsiding at about 10am this morning.

Having an MRI done on Wednesday to see if my stricture is still there then doc is going to put me forward for the surgery. Just wish I knew what was wrong with me now.

Hi Okitsme! :) Sorry for the late response.

What tests did they run at the hospital to rule out an obstruction? Even a partial can cause vomiting. Where is your stricture located? I'm surprised they would go as far as to talk about surgery for a stricture yet still have no clue as to the cause and have yet to diagnose you. You'd think they'd run more tests and diagnose before they outright remove that section unless they plan on further study of it and then diagnose you afterwards. Either way its sad to see people having to go through all this for so long with no proper treatment. Surgery really isn't proper treatment because if it comes back, then what? Hope you get some answers soon. Keep us posted on the MRI results. :)

Hopefully the MRI will show something so you can get treated and start to feel better. Does the pain happen after every meal? Have you noticed it with certain foods more than others?
good luck with your MRI today, let us know how it goes

Hi everyone,

Had my mri today and will be seeing my gi tonight. I have not really had pain since Tuesday and my gp has signed me off for the week. When I went to a&e they did blood tests and an X-ray to rule out obstructions. My blood tests showed some stuff that worried which is on a thread in the general ibd discussion section.

I usually get my pain after I eat and it's usually in the evenings about a hour after dinner. I have noticed I am unable to eat mayo and rich milky desserts which set me off. Also vegetables for some reason have a major impact on my pain.

I am usually a very gassy person and have managed two releases so far since Friday.

Once I have seen my gi tonight I will be posting an update.

Thanks everyone.

The thread in General (for anyone responding to reference): http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=45471

Hopefully the blood tests will lead you a diagnosis for you. It definitely does seem to point towards inflammation.

Vegetables have a tendency to do that - they're hard to digest so they often cause problems for anyone with stomach problems. Do you have issues with dairy products?

Just got back from gi and MRI is showing an improvement in the stricture although it is showing in various places I have spasm strictures. This is my third MRI and the first two which showed a stricture was reported by someone totally different so my gi is going to get a second opinion. He is also going to book me in for a camera down my throat to see if there are any more strictures.

So no further than what I was I am afraid. Still just tests and tests and more tests.

Yep, test after test. It gets old I know. There are many MANY more they can do though. Okitsme when you have the pill cam done, make sure they do the fake/dummy pill that dissolves before the real pill. This way you can hopefully avoid the possibility of the pill cam getting stuck in the stricture so you can avoid surgical removal.

Hi everyone,

Have you considered going on an elimination diet to figure out which types of foods you may be sensitive/allergic to? Quite a few who suffer from Crohns can not drink milk or various types of vegetables, while others are sensitive to various types of grains, glutens, etc. Many find that eliminating the foods they are sensitive to, can bring profound relief.

My husband is allergic to the lactose in milk but just couldn't resist. As a result, currently has gigantic rashes and welts covering about 60% of his body. He can eat yogurt and drink kefir though, both of which are milk products, but contain very little lactose (less than 1%). He also used to suffer with severe cramping, gas and chronic colitis, but for him, probiotics in kefir seem to have been keeping that under control.

Hope you obtain better information on your condition soon.
