Hi.

I was just wondering if any of you had a painful enema, I was at the hospital today for a ct scan they tried to give me a warm water enema so that the radiologist can see more clearer. But I could only get 1/3 of the bag before I was in pain.
Is this normal for some people.

I've never had one till this date, so i don't really know what i should of expected.

Thanks

I dont think i even managed that on a couple of occasions, depends on where your crohns is and how bad it is, anything touching it can be very painful.

Hope your CT scan will give some answers

Thank you Rygon,

Its good to know that I'm not the only one. It still worries me though because I've been told all along that my large intestine is very healthy the only part they ever found anything was the ileum. So I don't understand why it hurt so much, my husband thinks it might be because I was scared of it.
I do also hope the ct scan will show some answers. But as for my track records so far, I doubt it will show anything.

I am starting to feel I am going to be one of those who will not find out until its too late.

Just a question?? Could the enema have hurt because I am starting my menses and I had cramps at the time.

Hi Daunting,

I had a barium enema done not even a week ago and I was also just about to start my menses. I'm sure that could be part of it, also the fear (I know that's what did me in when the tech was trying to insert the thing). Once it was in and I was getting full of the barium, while not anything I'd do for fun, it was tolerable. It only REALLY hurt when they made me roll over on my stomach again and then pumped in a bunch of air- THAT sucked!

It could be a lot of things, or a combination of things, but know that you aren't alone. Enemas are not fun, period. But I do sympathize as I had some pain during my barium enema as well :(

Thank you MDCA.

I'm just really scared now, that it might of been a sign of things getting worse. What the nurse did was insert the tube while I was on my right side then asked me to role on my back and then she started inserting the water, first it went fast which hurt so she decreased the pressure, then it was just uncomfortable but then I got a sharp pain and she had to stop. I don't know if it was me that overreacted but I don't know if she could of continued or not. Maybe I was just a big baby and should of went through it. I was thinking, when we get nervous of scared sometimes our intestines react to that so maybe it was all my doing.

I really don't know anymore I'm just really scared. I was so hoping that this test was to show the problem. I have been through so many tests in this past year but everything comes back either clear or unspecific.
Thank again.

I'm sorry to hear that :( Wish I had better advice or could make things better but I'm totally new to this and have just started my adventure with all these tests myself lol. I go for an upper GI on the 26th and then my colonoscopy is yet to be booked. yikes.
