painkillers and pain - side effects on training?

Hi
New to forum.

Running London Marathon 2011. Practice running 20Km easy. Since Crohns flared up cannot handle even 2Km due to pain in joints.

Wondering if the pain experienced during Crohns is a sympton of a physical ailment or simply Crohns induced (whatever this means)?

Need to practice running, so would like to take pain killers enough to allow training without damaging the body. E.g. if I supress the pain experienced during a Crohns flare-up may this lead to worse pain and damages?

Does this make sense?

______________
Hospitalised and Diagnosed Crohns 2008, symptons as long as I can remember. Entocort 1-2 daily + D vitamins.

It's possible the joint pain is related to Crohn's (inflammation), but it's also possible it is from the training you've been doing itself. I don't think it's possible to know either way unless you see a physician. If the training is what's doing it, you can definitely cause lasting damage if you don't give yourself rest and allow yourself to heal.

According to the CCFA, "IBD-related peripheral arthritis usually does not cause any lasting damage." However, the inflammation in your joints usually reflects the inflammation in your guts, so it would probably be a good idea to see your GI. You may be in a "flare" and/or you may need to make some modifications to your treatment. If it is peripheral arthritis, I would imagine you can keep training at whatever level you are capable of.

I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor, they will probably be able to answer your questions. Regardless, I hope your training goes well and you start feeling better soon. Take care of yourself.
