I was seen in the ER and Dx'd with a mid partial small bowel obstruction and generalized swelling throughout. They did x-rays and CT scan with barium contrast. Had an NG tube [for which I bled like a butchered pig - my passages were so swollen and small the nurses said to tell whoever, if they ever have to do it again, to use a pediatric NG tube next time]...fortunately, the surgery they threatened was unnecessary. It resolved by itself. Two months later, had another episode with repeat of the vomiting + diarrhea + pain - although the pain was not quite as bad, so didn't go to the ER...also I was visiting family in another state. Well, in truth I have had these episodes on and off since I was a kid. I have repeatedly mentioned all this to many, many doctors, as I did that time in the ER. Wouldn’t you think that the ER folks would have at least mentioned IBD or Crohns, but not so. With my history plus that ER visit where they actually saw the small intestinal swelling, wouldn’t that be enough to diagnose it? What does it take anyway???!!!!
Well, thanks to this group, I have finally found a GI who listens to me and seems to know what he is doing: Dr. P Kumar, recommended by David in the doctor section. Thank you David!!! In October, when we are back in Austin, Tx, he will do biopsies [first ever] with upper endo [first ever] and another colonoscopy, maybe followed-up with a pill cam…depending how the first tests go. Hopefully, it well work out so I’ll finally get a real diagnosis.
