Anyone ever get a nasty purple bruise the size of a quarter after a stomach located pen injection? Its a beauty!

You got one of the little veins that run just below or through the skin. No biggie, happens once in a while. Are you on meds that make you bleed easily? I have to take aspirin every day, so I get bigger bruises than most people without health problems.

Yep most likely hit one of those veins. I did the same thing to my grandpa while giving him an insulin shot and he got a large purple bruise rather quickly too since he's also on blood thinners. Other meds like steroids can also make you bruise easily (6MP also made me bruise easily and there are many more, including Humira actually). It's only a matter of time until I hit one of those veins. If this is something that keeps happening though I'd let your doctor know about it or you can let them know now just to be on the safe side if you want.

I bruise all the time with the Humira. I agree with Crabby too- just being on the Humira itself can cause you body to bruise more easily. My bruising doesn't really hurt though.

my GI just upped my dose of humira from every other week to 1x/week :/ im not sure how I feel about that.

I use to inject with the pen and would get quarter sized bruises too. Two months ago I switched to the Humira syringe (I inject once a week) and have not bruised once. I think the force of the pen getting jabbed into my skin was too much. I find the syringe less painful and more control on the rate of speed the medicine is injected.

Well, I read your post and thought that you were experiencing an issue I had no experience with, and then I injected the pen yesterday. Guess what? That's right, I bruised for the first time. I think I hit a vein, because I bled a little more externally than I ever have before. The only plus to the purple mess is that it distracts from the swelling.
