Pentasa and exhaustion/other symptoms

Hello all. This is my first post, and I'll introduce myself in the appropriate forum in a little while.

I was just dx'd with moderate Crohn's ileitis last week. I've now been on Pentasa, 1000 mg 3 times daily, for less than a week. Within about 3-4 hours of my first dose of the day I notice a feeling of extreme tiredness come over me. It stays with me for the rest of the day/evening since I have two more doses after that one. I'm also suspicious the Pentasa is affecting my blood sugar. I'm hungry...HUNGRY!...within two hours of eating no matter what I eat or how much.

Anyone else experience exhaustion and extreme hunger on Pentasa?

Does this go away once your body adjusts?? Please say yes. :eek2:

How you getting on with the Pentasa now? I am on day one and I must admit to a bit of the munchies but nothing major....

As for fatigue, I've been sleeping for about six months now - no change there yet!

For the past two days I've tried switching my dosing around to where I'm taking it between meals (instead of with meals) and it seems to have helped a lot. I'm less tired and hungry. I honestly don't know if that's just my imagination or what.

I was on the highest dose of pentasa for about a year, but I was also on prednisone (still am, actually), which can cause extreme hunger. I did go through phases of feeling very hungry, but again, the prednisone could have caused that. As for tiredness, I was so sick that all I did was sleep anyhow, so no thoughts there. Sorry I couldn't be of help, but I just thought I'd throw my experience in the soup pot.

I'm feeling normal now. I don't know if it's my dose timing or what. Maybe it's just that I've adjusted to the meds now.

I've been on prednisone.........you have my deepest sympathy.

Yes and Yes deary to your questions of exhaustion and hunger. I have been on Pentasa for a few weeks now so I'm also hoping the exhaustion will ease up soon. The other meds cause such extreme nauseau, I'm happy something (maybe Pentasa) is causing hunger so that I still am driven to eat at least a little bit. I didnt weigh much when this all started and have only lost weight since so I'm happy to be hungry when I am Best of luck to you dear, I'd love to hear more from you as you continue to take this medicine!
