perfect diet

Hi everyone, i have just stopped smoking and i am hoping to get into shape a bit more than i am already and i was just wondering if anyone cud suggest the "perfect" diet for a Crohn's sufferer in order to put on weight etc....all suggestions welcome :D

Hi George,

We are all completely different my friend, but may i suggest plenty of eggs every different way

cold chicken with mayonnaise

potatoes and pasta.

Plenty of carbs !!

good luck with it

creamy peanut/almond/cashew butter (the simple kind, just nuts and salt), avocados, chicken and sardines and eggs (i would go through a ton of hardboiled eggs) for protein, potatoes and brown rice and quinoa for carbs cause i can't handle anything with gluten and it causes inflammation. I stay away from dairy, but if you can manage, milk would probably help.

cook stuff in olive oil! especially your veggies, they're important for all kinds of vitamins/minerals a growing body needs

good luck

I think you're best working out your own perfect diet hun, cos a lot of the things suggested by the others here are things I would avoid during a flare....... Its very much an individual thing!

Best wishes getting healthy! I really need to do the same after these exams!

I have noticed that too much protein aggravates my stomach during a flare and unfortunately I have to stay clear of lettuce. It is horrendous!!! Pasta seems to be safe - no heavy sauces. I would agree that everything tastes better with butter :) but in excess can do a number on my stomach. I've also had luch with oatmeal, although I'm sure this is something that many must avoid. Best of luck to you!!!

You might also consider investigating a non-inflammatory diet.
There are things we know for sure that are known to be inflammatory, which of course is counter-productive for people with autoimmune diseases...

I've personally had good luck eating a paleo diet, also known as an evolutionary diet. It was advertised as anti-inflammatory. Before eating this way, the gut was grumpy all the time. Now, only every once in awhile do I have serious problems.

If there was a perfect diet no one would be overweight even if they were on pred--I think there is no such thing.

When I'm not flaring I can eat anything I want to. I've noticed that my crohns isn't food related.

You you want to gain weight you should eat a low residue diet--lots of simple carbs.

Beach, I'm curious how many people have had success with Paleo. That is those who've genuinely tried it for the recommended 30 days that have seen improvement vs. those who haven't.

All I ever read is those who've seen marked improvement.
But does that mean it is truly that successful? Or just that those who've tried it with no notable success just haven't reported back?

BTW, I just finished my pred. taper and have also lost 10 pounds over the few weeks while doing a hybrid of Paleo and SCD. I have no pain whatsoever, no D and no other symptoms, either. :)
