Okay let's vent on this thread. What are some of your pet peeves concerning crohns? One of mine recently is when people think they under stand my disease by telling me, "I feel your pain, I just had diarrhea." it's not the same! Also I get really annoyed when people think they understand, by telling me so can't you just control it with your diet like so and so?? Every person is different!

I agree. I appreciate the fact that people are trying to relate to make me feel better, but "diarrhea" just isn't the same. My biggest pet peeve, however, is when you hear something along the lines of, "My headache (period, stomach flu, nausea, etc.) is just so horrible, I can't even IMAGINE what you must go through every day," especially when I've been trying not to dwell on it. I understand that it's meant as a compliment to our strong will and drive to not be beaten by a disease, but it ends up just reminding me of how horrible Crohn's really can be, and just how demoralized I am whenever I get home to an empty apartment. Just me, or do others of you feel the same?

I hate when people (my mom) say come on Carmela its not that big of deal your making it more than it is your kinda pretty so it makes up for it... WWWWWWWEEELLLLL I would love for you to carry a SH*T bag on your side and try and find a boyfriend!! Then say that line to me again. It's not that easy to get over unless your in that spot.:duh:

:nonono:

:tear:

Ugh, mine just happened to me today.
When someone finds out that I have Crohns they say "Oh really? My friends cousin has that" -awkward silence- my response "oh yeah...?" (bc i have no idea what to say lol) then I try to have a conversation with them about it, but they actually have no idea what it is...
Idk if that sounds like a big pet peeve...but it's annoying lol

I have the same pet peeve as Maria. I've actually had someone say to me " my Mom has that and you wouldn't know it." As if it is an easy thing to control. Let me tell ya, I've tried to do my normal activities and I do my best. However, that's not realistic at least for me. Per peeve people thinking they understand it and they don't .

At Maria- I'm sorry your Mom makes those comments . You are beautiful , but really strong and it is hard. I just joined this group because there are people that understand.

Yes, I hate when people say oh you would never know so and so has it! As if I should be able to control it as well as them. I think we learn to put on a mask well, because we don't walk around telling the world about our symptoms and how we just had diahhrea in the bathroom for 3 hours or we feel as bloated as a pregnant woman.

And Maria, I'm so sorry your mom says that too. I'm sorry she is not more understanding. :( I'm glad we have this forum to vent and you all understand.

For a good laugh... My neighbor who knows I have a hystorectomy asked me if I was pregnant last month. I was on prednisone and super bloated. Amazed at how I can have my normal stomach and them bam totally bloated. Foot in mouth syndrome on her part. Still , it made me feel bad.

Wow people can say things without thinking and be so rude. I was on prednisone and had moonface last thanksgiving. My grandpa in front of everyone took one look at me nd told me my face looked fat. I ran out of the room bawling.

My pet peeves are #1 how are you feeling? Me: not so hot. Them: we'll you look good.
#2 I have several problems and I often need a walker or the electric cart at the store. I am only 34 an people always giving me looks like why you in the cart!
#3 people bringing up what I use to be able to do and ask why I can't do it anymore.
#4 when I list all my meds and conditions the nurse or dr tell me I can't possibly be that sick. That one really burns me. I did not know that sickness had a age requirement!
