I have two 10-1/2 year old whippets, unrelated, that I've raised since puppies, and they both have IBD. I don't think it's necessarily common in the breed. I'm wondering how many of you have pets with IBD. Did I give it to them? Is it MAP or something else in our water? Just a coincidence?

My cat Max has IBD. He takes 5mg of Pred every morning.
He sees a cat IBD specialist to monitor his condition.
We minimise any anxiety for him and he is fed special cat IBD dry food.
His brother Henry has no intestinal issues.
Nor do my two other cats.
It is as inexplicable in animals as it is in humans.
Just a coincidence.

Both of my dogs are on metronidazole and a prescription diet. I'm sure it is just a coincidence but these are questions I can't help but ask myself. I thought it would be interesting to see how many IBD people have IBD pets. Thanks for posting. :)

I have a shnoodle that has IBD. I've been giving her 1cc budeniside for 5 years now. When I forget to give her her med, her stomach squeals very loud, she doesn't eat, and is very lethargic.

LodgeLady, is that a schnauzer/poodle? My boy dog is like that. He squeaks and squeals so loud you can hear him throughout the house. And he doesn't eat. My girl dog doesn't have any outward signs like that. I only found out she has IBD because a couple of years ago she had several bouts of aspiration pneumonia and I took her to a specialist and had her scoped. She found ulcers and scar tissue throughout her esophagus and stomach. Poor baby. We are a pathetic bunch! :)

Yes she is a schnauzer/ poodle mix. I never knew animals could get IBD. When she's flaring ( and I can hear it!) I know exactly what she is going through.

I hope your dogs have found some relief :(

We had an English bully many years ago who had colitis.
That's how I recognised my symptoms before I was dx'd.
