Hi
Im new on here, but ive noticed a lot of us rely on our pets for support, im not allowed to post pics yet but ill start it off with my girls..

I have my big girl Teasel (or mrs T, or Barry as she makes noises like Barry White when you itch her ears lol) who is a Deerhound
She is about 6 but is a rescue and we have had her about a year, shes a doll and is so full of love for us, which is so rewarding as we couldnt even touch her when we got her she was so scared of people :(

Then i have bella she is a grey hairy lurcher (bedlington terrier x whippet) and 2 years old, a total loon, and as cheeky as she looks

And my other blonde Bedlington x whippet Willow who is 1 and a half, whos a cuddle monster

I adore my girls, my life revolves around them lol, and they make me get up every day for thier walks, and i just love it when we all go out and have a long stomp around the countryside

So lets see your furry friends !!

Claire X

PS sorry if this has been done before

I have my 18 month old Jack Russell called Max, he is very nutty and high energy, but I have just started doing flyball with him so hopefully that will calm him down some. I also have 2 rabbits (who live in hutches in the garden). Unfortunately they are not allowed to roam on the grass because if Max gets out at the same time he will chase them. So the bunnies have to stay in a run. Finally I have a 4" fish tank with 3 clown loach, 6 sharks, 6 suckerfish. We did have tetras and barbs too, but they seem to have gone missing!

As you can imagine, our little house gets a bit crowded at times.

I am back to two cats. Had to put two to sleep earlier this year, but we got a new friend for our 4 year old cat Milo.

So now we have Milo and Mouse. Milo is a bengal short-hair mix and Mouse is a Maine and Persian Mix and is now 15 weeks old.

I also have a 26 gallon planted fresh water tank with Cherry and Gold Bars, 2 Gourami, White Clouds, a pleco and a cory cat and lots of live plants.

I have my little baby Bogey. He is a wheaten terrier/miniature poodle cross. Before my latest round of pred, he was making every trip to the washroom with me and lying patiently with his chin on my feet. Then making the trip back to the couch or bed.

Soooooooooooooo cute! Nearsided?:ycool:

Hahaha. His problem is probably selective hearing. It's the way he teases me. I tease him by making him wear glasses, capes, and lobster outfits. And he teases me by reluctantly obeying my commands. Sam and I have a pretty comical relationship sometimes.

I've got a cat (obviously), a hedgehog, and two gerbils. My cat is sassy and crazy and eats all sorts of food that cats aren't supposed to like. My hedgehog is grumpy and anti-social but really cute (hedgehogs are naturally solitary, and ours was a rescue and was most likely abused by his previous owners, so he's a bit more grumpy than the average hedgie). My gerbils are silly - one's very lazy and a bit fat, the other is very hyper and is always running in her exercise wheel. They provide entertainment for both me and the cat! :)

Here's a video of my hedgehog eating mealworms - that's really him chewing, he chews so loudly!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yDgj9A0tMM

Here's my hedgie, running in his wheel - he's slowed down considerably in his old age, but this video was taken when he was young and fast.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypkEgS8wh9g

And here is my cat, eating the slimy stuff that I scooped out of a pumpkin (I told you guys she eats weird stuff - she loves pumpkin slime!)

Pets? My wife is a vet...I live at a zoo, 7 dogs, 4 cats (counting a new one living in the barn mooching off the other barn cat's food), 2 horses, 1 cow and 19 newly acquired chickens that better start laying eggs and earning their keep or they may end up in the freezer. I don't have enough memory in my camera!!!

Cat, I have never in my life seen a cat eat something like that. No wonder you can't sleep at night with that hedgehog running on that noisy wheel for 12 miles. That little wheel would probably have to go around about 60,000 times to make 12 miles. Wonder where Spiny Norman thinks he's going?

Mark: 19 chickens?? 7 dogs?? Wow! I just got the gerbils recently and my husband made me promise "no more pets". We'd like to get one dog someday, but for now we've got all the pets we need.

Norman hasn't run 12 miles in a few years - I don't know his exact age, since he was abandoned before we got him, but I think he was about a year old when we got him, and that's when he would run so far and so fast. I read that wild hedgies can typically cover about 10 miles a night looking for food, so it's just in his nature to run all night. I think he's about 4 or 5 years old now, and he runs a half-mile during the night now if he's lucky. Some nights he doesn't run at all. Old age is catching up to him (average life span of his species is about 5-6 years).

And yes, my cat eats the weirdest things! She loves grapefruit, jello, corn chex cereal and cap'n crunch cereal, lettuce, insects... she also turns her nose up at chicken and tuna. She's a weirdo! :)

:ylol2: Funny!

I got an old cast iron bath tub I turned into a fish pond - god knows how many in there an of what now lol litterly hundreds of these little silver fish (dunno what they are or how they got there lol)
and some goldfish

I got a galah and a short billed corella

and two pure bred boxers - my babies or my girls as I call them
they are only just startin to slow down a bit now (almost 7years) but still very hypo lol
they will bounce on the spot at my side fence when I pull up in driveway and I can jus see there ears flapping over the fence lol an the tops of there heads - the fence is 7' high so pretty nuts, I'm sure they could jump it quite easily if they wanted too

I dunno what I'd do without my girls great company

Here's all 4 of my boys in one shot. From left to right via head position: Gratch, Pazuzu, Kotick, and Musta.

I have a rescue dog called Jay, he is 8 years old now and very stocky. he was 4 months old and had been physically abused, he was so skinny and shook at the slightest noise.
I don't know what he is, but he is very handsome!
He looks like a Basenji, or a long legged Jack Russell, he's defo a terrier.
but it bugs me, he moults all year round, the hair is everywhere, even gets in the oven, he is pure white and it's on our clothes, carpets etc, aaarrrrggh!
I brush him everyday and last year I had him completely shaved which helped for a while, but soon grew back. wonder if theres a machine that blasts off hair?
any suggestions?
other than that, I love him very much!

Astra if you find something can you let me know? Max is the same, when he scratches or shakes himself you can see the fur fly! By the way, Max is also a long legged jack russell. Though he isn't pure white (about half black with a few touches of tan on his face and hindquarters). I find the black hairs stick to light coloured things and vice versa!

Cool thread!
HAHA Mark! I would love to have 7 dogs!!! and a horse!!!

I also have a rescue dog named Keona.
I live in Southern Ontario and got her in Ohio. I had her shipped to New York a day before she was euthanized and picked her up there not knowing what shape she would be in.
She is currently sleeping in the bathtub because it is so ridiculously hot/humid out. I have run out of tricks to teach her (she turns the lights on but cant get her to turn them off).
She loves everyone and everything (except thunder and fireworks).

although her adoption advertisement said: ... "sweet pup, plays with other dogs and children, eats well... enjoys people..."
.......she doesn't actually eat the people :D

she gives me her rawhide and licks my face when Im sick.

@Astra, maybe you could take a vacuum hose to him instead of blowing the hair off. :p

What kind of brushes do you use? I have two different ones that I use on my cats (it all depends on the type of hair) because one detangles and goes deep and the other acts like a magnet.

First one:
StraightMetalDogCombSmallImage.jpg
Second one:

The second one also gets hair off of rugs and furniture and comes in many different shapes and sizes (you can wear it as a glove and just pet your dog while you brush).

This is my little Bitza (bitza this and bitza that). Her name is Dharma. She is a rescue dog and we've had her for 8 years. The vet aged her at about 11 years old now. She had to have her eye removed about a year ago because of Glaucoma and now she has a cataract in the remaining eye. Not that it affects her at all! She runs full steam ahead after rabbits that she can't see (sometimes she runs right past them and it's so funny, bless her). Now and then she runs into door jambs and the like.

We adore her. She came to us as a very aggressive rescue dog but now she just loves almost everyone (almost).

She has a real problem with travelling in the car; she can't wait to get in, but then she wimpers, yelps, barks, drools and is generally very anxious until the journey ends. We've tried just about everything but nothing works. Any suggestions welcome! Anyhoo, she still wants to come with us whenever the 'car' word is used. Here she is...

HAHA...imaginary rabbits. Sooo cute. Do you get the dog whisperer there?
http://www.cesarsway.com/
the guy is brilliant when it comes to dogs. I remember an episode with an anxious dog that did the same. Maybe you can find it on his site or Youtube.

You should get your dog an eye patch :D

I have two dogs, Molson, my fluffy boy is 3 and is a golden retriever-brittany spaniel mix. And my little girl Molly is 1 and she is a bloodhound-german shepherd mix. They were both adopted from an animal shelter. I love my doggies! They keep me company because my husband is gone all the time (military) and we live 800 miles away from our families.

Hey busy, one word valium. I've heard my wife prescribe it for several dogs with anxiety disorders. If Dharma has to go on a long trip you might check into it.

Wendy, is that the same Keona that's in the avatar? She's all growed up now!!

I love animals. I have a mini zoo... 4 cats, 2 dogs, 1 bird, about 30 chickens( hard to do exact head count with them all running around lol) 10 ducks and I raise rabbits for show. Have 31 rabbits at the moment. Keeps me very busy!!

I always loved the name Molson.. You must be Canadian eh? :ylol2:

Mark, yes it is! She is 4 now. I have her puppy picture up because the other ones I have to make smaller for the avatar. This avatar pic was already small ..also, that was the day I got her and I dont want to forget how happy she was! Most of the pics from that day are a big blur but this was on the (LONG) car ride home.
I think you ought to take a pic of all your animals Mark...or get EJ to! Tell him to get a group shot :D

Hi all, I have 3 dogs and one cat. My oldest dog is Casey she is a mixed breed and is 16 years old and totally deaf but perfectly happy in her own little world. Next is my boxer Mya...she is so much fun, she lifted my spirits so much when I was down and out and looked out for me like a mother hen. She is 3 and just got diagnosed with congestive heart failure but we have her on meds and she is doing well. I guess she will just have a shorter life than normal but I amso lucky to have her. Then I have Oscar a 3 year old Shi zu. He is my nurse, he follows me to the bathroom and waits for me and then waits til i am settled and lays with me on my lap, he's my boy and my snuggle bug. They have kept me going so many days when I was down. Pets definately have a great purpose in a humans life :)

What a gorgeous lil thing Rose is, Bobby! Definitely one of those things that make you go 'awwwww..'

I wish I had a pet. I really want a Pug. Can't have one at my apt complex, but hopefully one day I will get a pet.

Awwwww! We have two dalmatians Bud and Princess, Princess is perfect.
Bud is the naughtiest dog in the world!!! This weekend we had a BBQ (yes the sun sometimes shines in the UK!) and he ate a whole bowl of Doritos in two seconds flat!!! Wouldn't change him though. They certainly keep us busy.

I have 2 4-5ish year old labs.

The black one, Luca (as in Luca Brasi from the Godfather), is also called Trouble, BBnF or Big Black and Furry, Fat Butt (self explanatory...), and Cutey Pie/Butt.

The yellow one, River (as in River Tam from Firefly/Serenity), is also called Trouble, Jello (For being jealous and yellow), Jealous, Sweet and Yellow (because it sounds like Sweet&Low), and Cutey Pie/Butt.

They are both sweet as can be, but they can be a handful! They're my kids though.

We also have a kitty cat living here. Some dogs I know like to invade the litter box sometimes... :stinks:

Bobby, your hedgie is cute! I don't have a photo of my hedgehog right now (I'm at work) but I posted a couple of videos of him in my earlier post in this thread. How old is Rose? My hedgie Norman is about 4 or 5 and his age is starting to show. I always thought it would be nice to get a female for him so we could have baby hedgies, but it never happened and I think he's probbaly too old now.

I knew hedgies were illegal in some states, but I didn't know which ones. I live in WI and they're legal here - I even saw some babies in the pet store the other day. So cute! I was very tempted but I already have enough pets so I resisted the urge to own another hedgie. :)

WE got legal wild ones roaming...they are called porcupines :ylol2:

Very cute!!!

The first thing I thought when I saw Cat's Spiny was that it looked like a cross between a porcupine and a possum. I didn't mention it because I was afraid I'd get Cat-scratch fever:).

Oh Ethan... what a cute puppies, I wants one lol.

16 years for a dog, that is quite amazing. My golden put down in May was 12. They say it was a good age for a golden.

I still have two more dogs tho, no more puppies lol.

Here's a couple more pictures of my hedgie, Spiny Norman. (I've never posted photos here before so hopefully this works.)

No, Norman doesn't really chew at all. He was a rescue hedgie and I suspect he was abused by his previous owners, so his personality is pretty withdrawn. He mostly just sleeps and runs in his exercise wheel. He isn't a fan of being held a lot or anything like that. So we try to make sure he has lots of treats to eat and a comfortable home to curl up in, and he does pretty well. When we first got him, he was so traumatized he wouldn't even eat. Now he scarfs down mealworms! :)

Oh mealworms, wow...how can an animal love such a thing? I only give Rose maybe 4 -5 a day and I've had the packet for nearly a year and there's like half a bag left - best £3 i ever spent!

Try Norman with some cooked chicken breast, I hand feed her and have her tug away at it!
Rose is ok being handled, she just likes to taste everything which involves being chewed!

I'm finally learning how to post pictures! Here are 2 of my 4 cats and 1 of my 2 dogs. It's kind of hard to get pictures of animals using a laptop webcam, but I somehow managed it. I love everyone's pictures. We are all so lucky to have such beautiful pets. All of my animals were strays. The dog, Max, I just got a couple of months ago and he would have been put down had I not taken him. He such a good dog. The mancoon cat is Snickerdoodles, and the gray one is Charlie. I'll put photos of my other pets later.

And if I could, I would have a sugar glider and a hedgehog! Cat - Spiny Norman is so adorable!!!! And Bobby - so is Rose. I didn't know hedgehogs were so cute. They look like they would be fun to have around.

Wow, lucky! Mealworms are expensive here and Norman goes through them - he eats about 20 or so every day. We got some live mealworms and learned how to "farm" them so that we have a continuous supply - we let a few pupate and turn into beetles so that they mate and produce the next generation of mealworms. The things we do for our pets, huh? :)

I'll try Norman with a little chicken breast, but he's not been a fan of new foods in the past. I had read somewhere that boiled eggs are a good treat for hedgies, so I tried a bit with Norman, and he totally ignored it. The only things I can get him to eat are cat food and mealworms and the occassional other insect (I caught a big junebug the other day, and he took pleasure in crunching it down).

Your Maine Coon looks like our cat Tigger we lost earlier this year. We know have a gray kitten named mouse that looks like your other one.

Hey Zal, that poor cat's gonna starve if you never feed it!! Poor unappreciated random dog . I was expecting some old stray outside.

Lol whenever people come over and have never seen my cat they think it's huge and are amazed by it. I don't abuse the dog or anything i take it for walks etc, I just don't enjoy it's company. Mostly because I didn't have it from a puppy.

How much does your cat weigh Zalanicht? I have a chubby looking kitty too, but I vet says he is normal. He just has a tiny head and carries all his weight in his mid section lol

I now have rose, an african pygmy hedgehog!

HA! You just reminded me of 3rd grade. The teacher would let a student take home this stuffed hedgehog and the student had to take it everywhere and write in the hedgehogs diary about what it did while it was with you. I got it one time and my sisters got a hold of the diary and wrote all sorts of nasty stuff in it about being neglected and molested. The teacher wasn't happy as she usually reads the story to the class and she had me rewrite something real quick before class started. I didn't know my sisters had gotten rid of what I wrote and put in their own words. :p

Heres a few pictures of my animals...

Baloo...Wasnt to thrilled about this. This is what happens when boredom strikes. LOL

I have a 12 yr. old Basset Hound named Ike. He was a house warming gift given to me from my husband 13 yrs. ago. He has diabetes and neck problems. I give him his insulin injections 2 x a day. He is my child with fur. I can tell when he's having an off day due to his sugar being too high or too low. I've been there for him when he's crashed and he's been there for me when I was waiting for help to arrive to take me to the ER.

He cried for 10 days while I was in the hospital fighting for my life after I had a stroke. When I came home, he never left my side at all. To this day, whenever I have bowel obstructions and have to be admitted, my husband takes care of him at home but Ike will not eat unless coaxed w/his favorite vegetable or treat. Then when I return, he will sit on my feet, follow me around, and jump on my lap and stay there the entire time.

He can sense when I am not feeling well or I am about to get help to go to the ER. He will stay by my side and not move an inch or jump on my lap near my stomach to keep the pain from throbbing as if he can tell that I'm really hurting. He is the biggest joy in my life and a great source of comfort when my husband has to work & I'm alone.

Pets can always sense when we are not feeling well. They are the BEST care takers if you ask me. God bless them. :)
