Hi I am new to the forum, just found this last night. Dr's think I may have Crohn's so in June I will be taking the Pill Cam and was wondering if anyone else has done this. I have been in the hospital 4 times since Nov 2007 with horrible unbareable stomach pains. My white count was 14 and then 16. This last time I had partial bowel obstruction. I am seeing 2 GI Dr's 1 local and also at the Mayo clinic. This pill cam is suppose to determine if I have Crohns or not. I need a name to this pain. May 9th I ate a veggie bake of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus. Then later that afternoon had a bowl of cereal and in a few short hrs the pain started in, finally at 8:00 that night I couldn't bare the pain any longer.
The surgeon at the hospital said take Metamucial when I told the GI Dr's this they both said NO, you can take Myra Lax which is much much better. As for food I am sticking with most soft foods for now. Ins is maxed out, I've had 5 Ct Scans, and all the other tests so I hope this pill cam works and doesn't get stuck, then I would need surgery.

I haven't had the pill cam, others here have. I'm sure they'll pop in with advice.

IBD and vegatarian diets don't mix... you'll probably need to weed out all gassy vegs, all fibrous vegs, all raw, fresh or el dente vegs... Consult a dietician, or do a search for IBD recommended diets, or keep a food diary and do a little experimenting to see what agrees with you, what triggers flare-ups.

As for fibre like Metamucial, or other strong laxative related products, consult with your GI. Many products are off the menu for folks with crhonic bowel disease.

hi gemmy & welcome :)

yep, i'd agree with kev on the diet thing, & it sounds like you've already taken a positive step by going onto softer foods. good luck with the pill cam & results - i hope this brings you some answers and subsequently some effective treatment/help.

Gemmy...

I did the ole pill cam about 2 months ago...and here is how it works...

Went in to the doctors office at about 8:00 a.m.....they checked all my vitals and such and my visit prior to that..which was about 2 weeks...they had asked me if I was eating solid foods without no issues....I had told them yes...that is really the only sticking point(no pun intended)....cause if you are inflamed at all..it has the potential to get lodged. Anyway, they put all these probes on me...roughly 12...just like a EKG with wires that goes to a small like old fashion dvd player(size wise)....then 10 minutes later I swallowed the pill...which was a little bit bigger than your normal aka horse pill...was easy to swallow.....it's kinda cool looking...has a flashing blue strobe light on it...so I did not go back to work and you can't do any kind of bending over type activity....so I just chilled out for 8 hours and came back at 4 p.m....they took all the stuff off of me....and about 8 p.m. that night....it came out....you know where....was pretty painless....found out my results in 2 weeks...

I've swallowed 2 of them. Its nothing to generally stress over. Kittee, another forum member has done it as well, hers got stuck but then they were able to get it out without surgery. So she may pop in with her thoughts on it.
