Hi All,
I have not been on the forum in a while. I have been going through a rough patch personally (diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rsd in my right arm and right ankle). My daughter was doing so well since May we were hoping it would continue. She had a great summer in camp but towards the end of camp she started having mild symptoms and as soon as she came home it turned into a full blown flare up. Her doctor put her back on prednisone and now she came down with pneumonia. My question is what to expect with this pneumonia. I am s worried with her on 2 immunosuppressives. The prednisone and she is also on Methotrexate. Has anyone here had a child get pneumonia? what was the course and how fast did they recover?

Kim

Daughter with Crohns diagnosed at age 11 now turning 14
Current Meds:

Prednisone
Flagyl
Methotrexate
Pentasa
Nexium
Cefdnir (antibiotic for pneumonia)

Kim, no experience with a child getting it, but a workmate was recently dxed with it and though he was able to work after about a week, it took a month at least to feel 100%. I hope she does better than that but I'm afraid the crohn's flare may slow her ability to fight off the infection. I hope not!!

I have had pneumonia twice with the Crohn's. Not as a child, but as an adult. The first time it took almost a month to get back to normal, the second time just about a week and a half. I was dx quickly the second time, but sick for a long time before the dx the first time,as well as flaring and in and out of the hospital, which might be why it took longer to recover then. I don't remember what medication they used to treat the pneumonia the first time, but the second time I was on a z-pack.

I hope she recovers quickly.

Hey Kim,

I'm so sorry to hear that both you and your daughter have been doing it tough. :(

We haven't had any experience with pneumonia here but I hope your girl is able to get on without any problems and quickly too!

Good luck hun and keep us posted...

Thinking of you,
Dusty. xxxxxxxx

Thanks for the well Wishes. Her pneumonia is much better but her Crohn's is acting up badly and not seeming to improve!

Sorry Kim! How long has she been on pred? Metho? I hope she's on the mend soon!
