Hi! I have a weird question for anyone who has been on the elemental diet (EEN). Was your pooh very runny? I'm just not sure whether it is because the diet isn't working and I'm still flaring, or whether that is just how everyone's pooh is when they are only drinking liquid. My pooh is not watery but isn't formed at all. Thanks!

I just recently completed 2 weeks on EEN, and yes, my stool was anywhere from completely watery to mostly unformed little pieces. Generally speaking, what goes in is what comes out, so if you're only drinking liquids, you're not going to have very solid stool. Once I started on food again, my stool firmed right up. So don't worry too much about it, what you described sounds pretty normal to me for being on EEN.

Yeah that een for some equals liquid in liquid out but typically only 1-2 bm a day
When Ds was on amino based formula ( neocate ) he was actually very constipates but runny like water on peptamen Jr
Once food is added things go back to normal quickly

I was on EEN plus prednisone, and yes, that combination worked great for me. I'm getting a little better every day. I hope it works well for you too! It's sometimes hard to stick to EEN, sometimes you really want food, but try to stick to it anyway as it'll pay off in the long run. Good luck!

I'm suffering at the moment and have been put on Modulen EEN. My stools are just liquid and bright yellow, I'm still going quite a bit (5-10 times a day) but hoping that will settle as things start to improve.

Thanks for posting about this, I'm new to the forum and it's good to see other people wonder about similar issues too!

Hope you are feeling much better very soon x

How are you finding doing EEN psychologically? I found the first week very hard. Not eating makes me feel really isolated. I'm now on day 11 and feeling a fair bit better. It is the second time I've done it now. The first time I did it for 5 weeks. I can barely remember anything about the experience. Was obviously so traumatised, I had to wipe the memory. Haha! Hope you don't find it too bad. The good thing is how much better physically you start to feel. Good luck!

I'm still on my first week, at the minute it's nice to not have to think about eating as my appetite is completely absent and after these first 5 days of EEN I feel like my brain is a bit more switched on and even left the house for an hour today!

I'm now clear fluids only ahead of my mri on Wednesday so hopefully I'll know what the plan is going forward from there.

I do thing longer term once I start going out again that I will find it very isolating as most of my social interactions are based around eating and drinking and I can't imagine going out for dinner with friends or family and just getting my shaker out 😒 I also have no idea how I would manage going back to work whilst I'm on it (if I get that much better)

Are you on it for 5 weeks again this time?

I'm glad that you are feeling a bit more alert in the mind now. Do you have any idea how long you will be on it? Or are you just waiting until you have the tests?

I will only exclusively do the drinks for 2 weeks and then I'll do half drinks, half LOFFLEX diet for another week or two. I am self treating, to a large extent. I live in Australia and elemental diet is not practiced much here except with children. So, I'm sort of making it up as I go along, with the guidance of John Hunter's book. The last time I did the diet, it put me into remission for a couple of years so I'm hoping it works again. I have a colonoscopy next week so I'll find out a bit more then.

Are you newly diagnosed?

I'm still awaiting diagnosis but they are treating me as Crohn's because of my symptoms, ct scan and faecal calprotectin results. I've been out of hospital for two weeks now and the dietician wasn't happy that I've continued to lose weight even on the steroids so she spoke with my consultant and they recommended starting EEN.
The dietician has been amazing but I'm not sure on the long-term plan as the consultant could still turn round on Wednesday and say its all in my head 😞

I've been suffering with symptoms for 2.5 years and have had some of my only pain free episodes whilst on the steroids and EEN so I've no idea what I'll do if they say I'm imagining it.

I hope your period of remission is as long (or even better!) once you are out of your flare xx
