Sadly even though my doctor hates using steroids I've been unwell at the moment and to ease the gap between my next infliximab which he is doubling the dosage of he has decided to put me on prednisone for short term. This has immediately brought fear to me because I've never heard any particularly good stories of people being on it! Throughout my crohns I haven't worried about any of my treatments or how things go but steroids always strike fear in me.

I'm probably being irrational as it's only short term, but I was hoping some people may have some posited from taking it that might make me feel less petrified of it!

Thanks

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been well .

I know steroids are a horrible prospect, but they really can make a huge difference.

When I was first diagnosed, I had a pretty long course, and although I did get some bloating and moon face, I honestly didn't mind, they made me feel like myself again, I felt better than I had in years and I was very grateful for that.

I would suggest taking them with breakfast, that way you lower the effect on your stomach so they are less likely to make you feel sick, and taking them first thing in the morning lowers the chance of them keeping you up all night :) .

Many people on here have found steroids to be extremely helpful and feel the side effects are often worth it.

My son was on Prednisone as well for 3 months. It made a huge difference for him. The inflammation levels in his blood were normal 5 days after starting. He was able to eat again, gain weight (which he desperately needed), and it gave him energy. There were times about a month or so into taking it that he had some problems getting good restful sleep (tylenol pm can help) and he was emotional. But, because he knew it was the prednisone it was easier for him just to know it would pass, and that it was the prednisone not him. All of those issues went away once he was off of it. He did get the moon face, which didn't bother him.

He had a great experience from prednisone, it kicked him into remission and the 6mp kept him there. It has been over 2 years now and we are very grateful it worked so well for him.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing. Hopefully, you will be off of it soon and feeling better. :)
