possible hernia?

If one had a hernia, would the pain be unbearable? Would I be able to feel a lump where the pain is? I possibly strained my abs a little too much this afternoon and have been having pain since. Not terrible pain. I'm okay while sitting here with my heating pad, but getting up and moving around is a little painful. I go see my GI doc tomorrow, I am going to ask him about it, I was just curious though what they felt like.

Hi Manzyb, just my own experience..i had an umbilical hernia that my surgeon was nice enough to fix while he was doing my hemicolectomy. It was n't really painful in itself, and not as prominant as some i've seen online. But the night of violent barfing that most likely caused it ,was pretty painful. Also what i thought was a hernia...lower right quadrant , that i got doing situps , was actual a tear happening in my illium !! So ..yeah , go get it checked, so you can get back to lifting your little Sadie bear. cheers

I went to the GI today, and its still pretty painful. He said that he didn't feel anything that was bulging, but the pop that I heard could have been from scar tissue or an adhesion maybe strained or pulled something in there? Weird, he didn't seem too worried about it, but its hurting and I think i will call the surgeon's office who did the surgery and talk to them.

Matt has what I think is an incisional hernia. They tend not to be painful straight up but rather something that you are aware of as they will pop in and out.

Matt had an ultrasound done but they were unable to pick up any abnormalities.

Matt's certainly isn't painful at this point and generally nothing is done until they do become painful or they stay permanently out.

Since the area is remaining sore I think you are making the right decision in speaking with the surgeon.

Good luck!

put your hand on it and give a large cough if you feel it bulging it could be a hernia. TBH it could be a pulled muscle though if you did it at the gym it would be pretty painful with movement and take a day or two to settle down.
