Hello,

I've been using Pred for 3 weeks and 1 day now but I'm not noticing any effect.

I started with 40 mg a day for 1 week. Then 35 mg a day for a week and so on.

I also use Salofalk Granu-Stix 3g (Oral)

I contacted the hospital after a week on Pred and asked how long it should take before I would start to see any improvements. She told me it takes 2 weeks for Pred to start working, and it takes up to 4 weeks to feel better.

Today i entered my 4th week, 25mg, and I'm still not feeling better (I have the feeling its becoming worse since I stopped using clysters/enema's.)

I also don't have any sides. (No moonface, no increased appetite or anything)

Any suggestions what I should do?

I contacted the hospital today but they wern't able to help me at this time because the doctor was on vacation.

PS: If some parts are unclear please tell me. English isn't my main language.

No you were very clear.

Not everyone gets side effects like moon face or increased appetite so you use that to judge whether you are getting enough medication.

In my experience, the decrease in dose (wean) isn't started until you have had some improvement. You started weaning very quickly - before you got any better. That might be the problem.

I would expect the doctor to increase your pred dose back up to 40 mg for now and perhaps keep you there longer. You might ask if he would let you stay at 40 mg until you start to feel better.

While I'm not a doctor, if it were me I wouldn't drop my dose any further until I had talked to the doctor.

How long is the doc gone? They don't have a backup doctor for you to talk to?

Why are you taking it? It doesn't solve any form of IBD. It just makes your bones weak and a million side effects. You should read the IBD protocol I posted to the treatment section. It will set you free.

The person on the phone said she would ask the question to another doctor and return a phone call when she knew any answers to my questions. Been over 24 hours now though.

I also asked after a week if it would be wise to stay at 40mg, they told me this was the way to go and I should just be patient.

Got a phone call from the doctor today.

He said I should continue with the original plan and decrease with 5mg every week.

In addition he told me to stop using the Salofalk and start using 3mg Beclomethasone / 4g mesalamine clysters/enemas. (I've used these in the past).

Problem is, I can't pick up the meds untill monday and monday is also the day I'm going to Greece for 2 weeks.

Do you guys think it would be a smart move to use budesonide foam untill I get different meds monday? I still have those lying around here at home.
