Sarah has a problem getting from 10mg to 5mg.

Her attempt has failed today. First attempt pain come back after 4 days. This time pain come back after 5 days, but not as bad as the first time.

We are running own taper with GI advice, down 5mg every 7 days, and go back to last safe level if symptoms come back.

Any advice on how long to wait before trying again. Thinking about trip to the GP for 1mg tablets, does anyone thing this would help.

Her mid year exams start in just over 3 weeks. She is doing year 12 biology and the mid year score counts in her final mark.

Catherine,
When I was tapering, I used 2.5 mg tablets, so I could go from 10 to 7.5 to 5. (You can also cut a 5mg tablet in half. It took longer, but it was a smaller jump each time.

Ya I remember having to break the pills in half cause they didn't have anything smaller than 5mg back in the day. Hopefully you got the 1mg tabs from your GP. Any update?

Sarah back on10mg, pain is starting to settle. May make a trip to gp this week. She doesnot like idea of spliting the current as this will make them taste worse

when i taper i am fine until i get to 10mg - then i have to use 2.5mg tabs to slow it down.

My Gp also told me to taper like this:

10mg
7.5mg
10mg
7.5mg
10mg
7.5mg
7.5mg
7.5mg
7.5mg
7.5mg
5mg
7.5mg
5mg
7.5mg

etc - on alternate days i drop a dose.

This method enables me to get off it a lot faster.

We got the 1mg pred from gp yesterday. Sarah now taking 8mg. Still having some stomach issues mild pain. Really can't tell whether it is normal nerves/stress. year 11 exams start tomarrow and go into next week, and 12 year biology and gait the following week. Plus all the extra work with two folio subjects.

I had a horrible time tapering. I tapered from 30mg to 10mg fine. But trying to go from 10mg to 0 was awful. It me from dec 1 to may 1 to taper to 0. I ended up tapering 1 mg every 2 weeks about. It was a long hard process.
