I haven't been here for a while, just got a few questions, my brother started on 60 mg prednisolone he is now on 15 mg, he is also on 125 mg azathioprene, and the thing is he is still having around five BMs a day, the frequency of going the loo is more or less his only symptom, it just doesn't seem to be working he is still missing time off school, can't do his sports he is really starting to feel down and i don't know what to say or do to make him feel better.

Is there anyone else who prednisolone doesn't seem to work and what else did you try, i think the doc's will just want to up his dosage again, but i don't really see the point as even when he was on a high dose he was still going to the loo alot, i just feel for him at the minute, any advise on anything we could try to help him out.

Unfortunately Pred doesn't work for everyone. Unfortunately though as Pred is often the first line of treatment its something that you have to persevere with, as much as it sucks. When he eventually finishes his course of Pred the Doctors may look into other options such as Infliximab (Remicade).

Has he had a colonoscopy or anything? If your brother only has one or two parts of his intestine that are inflamed / ulcerated then your doctors may go down the road of surgery, but that depends on the doctors and what state his intestines are in.

I'm currently on 35mg of preds a day and I dont find it working too well for me either. I dont have problems with too many bm's but sever pain and nausea....
Hope they find something that will work for him!

OOOHHHH...I am so so sorry Prednisone isn't working for you guys...I have a a love/hate relationship with that stuff. It works but I feel like crap on it..I hope you find a combination that works for the both of you. Sue
