Prednisolone

I was recently taken off medication due to heart palpitations and sore joints. Im waiting to hear about immunosuppressants but in the meantime I'm on steroids. I have got so much worse this past couple of days to the point i cant stand with the pain. I haven't felt this bad in ages. Does this mean the steroids aren't working? Can steroids be ineffective?
Feeling completely overwhelmed and lost.

How long have you been on them? They are generally fast acting but everyone is different. Hoping they kick in for you while you wait to get on maintenance drugs. No drug works for everyone but pred does have a good response rate.

Been on them for well over a week. Just thought they might have made some kind of impact by now I have phoned my ibd nurse so just waiting for a call back.

Steroids should have worked by now. I hope the IBD nurse rings back soon.

Update: Ibd nurse phoned back. Says it could be to do with not going to the toilet as much and everything could be 'bunged up'. Anyway he wants to see me asap. Says he is going to try and get me in quickly. Thankfully. He doesnt want to give me pain killers though because they could just make everything worse?

The problem with opiates is that they have a constipating effect. So if you are getting obstructed they can be dangerous. If you were in hospital, they probably would but they can keep an eye on things. Use paracetamol instead. If the pain is because you are getting blocked, then it should shift when you start going to the toilet properly. With me, these sort of episodes tend to last about 24 hours. It is horrid, the pain is just about as bad as it gets.

Thanks daisy Yeah he said he is going to contact my GP and get stuff to help me go and hopefully this will relieve the pain. Never thought id see the day that id rather be going to the toilet loads than not enough haha. To the shop for some paracetamol
