I was wondering how long will it would take for it to get out of my system. I started in in December and was at 40mg. By mid January I was almost off of it then had a flare up and was put back to 40 mg. I just got off of it about 2-3 weeks ago. I gained 30+ pounds while on it and I feel like my face looks like a balloon and everything else for that matter. I heard my B12 shots would help me lose the weight but the scales say I am just going up in weight.

This sucks!!!

It would vary per person. Did you taper off? It could be anywhere from a few days to weeks depending on how your body reacts. Wish I could give you a better answer.

Yes the tapered me off. So 16 weeks ago I was at 40mg and then about 12 weeks ago they tapered me off by 5mg every week with the last week being every other day of 5mg.

I think my moon face took about 2-3 weeks to go away last time I was on pred. The severe fatigue took months but I don't want to scare you, I think I had an unusual reaction and was on it much longer than you.

Not sure what the exact half-life of the medication is or how to figure it out bur my understanding is the higher the dosage and the longer you are on it, the longer it may take to fully leave your system.

OMGosh! This was/is my situation exactly....well except I'm still tapering at 10mg :ybatty:. I haven't weighed this much since I was pregnant! I'm pretty sure I have three chins at this point. I can't stand seeing my face in the mirror and none of my clothes fit! I'm still having issues with mood swings, tiredness and hot flashes as well, grrr. I'm not looking forward to seeing old friends at open houses next month while looking like this. :-( I don't get B12 shots but I'm wishing I do now if it will help loose this weight!

I hope you have quick results in loosing your prednisone weight! I hope to soon follow! :)

the fat face issue or should i say MOON FACE as its common to call it, this does fade away after coming off the pred so i wouldn't worry about it to much.

as to putting weight on with pred, is this really a bad thing ? after all us crohnies have huge problems keeping weight on so again i really wouldn't be so negative about it.

the other thing to remember is that especially women seem to think that a few pounds of weight affects there looks - IT DOESN'T !!!

Sadly as I have recently discovered, the prednisolone does nothing for me health wise so I am now on infliximab but the pred too which was just as a 'back up' alternative. I was first on pred a few years ago and was off of it for over a year however I have not seemed to lose the face weight and my face always seems to appear large.

I feel like I have lost the "moon" face. It is just getting the other weight off. It seems like I have to eat so much junkier food than healthier food. I walk 1.5 to 2 miles a day and my weight still hasn't evenly distributed. I just want to go back down a little. I hate looking like I'm pregnant. I actually got mistaken for being pregnant the other night. I almost cried!

Being mistaken for being pregnant might not necessarily signify you weigh too much. I'm very underweight but because of all the digestive problems my stomach bloats out, it's out of proportion to the rest of me. I don't think anyone's ever thought I'm pregnant, but I have had a lot of doctors and nurses worry that I might have a blockage when they examine me because of how bloated my stomach can be! Certain foods can make bloating worse, and there are some meds that are supposed to reduce it - they don't help me much but it might be worth a try. I just make sure I wear clothes with really comfortable waists so I don't feel the bloat!

My moon face went away within days of stopping pred, but the effects on body shape lasted much longer. Although I didn't gain weight on it, I did lose muscle and my weight did distribute very differently - for some reason I ended up with flabby skin where I used to have some muscle, especially on my legs and thighs! I stopped pred last March and my weight distribution is still not quite back to normal - I can see that I don't have the same muscles as I used to, but they no longer feel weak and I can see they're gradually getting back to normal. If you came off it in April/May it probably is just that you need to give it a little longer. Some side effects take more time to disappear than others.

Keep up the walking, it sounds like you're doing great. Just have to be a bit patient, I'm sure you're beautiful even if you don't always feel like it. :ghug:
