Hi all!

Last time I was on prednisone, I gained 30lbs and it never went away. I was off it for 8 months, and sadly today, I need to start them again.

Any tips on what foods to avoid? Ex: junk food, cake, etc

I want to keep weight gain to a minimum.

Also portion control.. as I know I was eating like a pig last time!

I really have no idea, except for lots of water, limit salty foods since Pred. makes you retain water so badly.

I did the same thing as you though, my first time on Pred. I let myself eat more then I should have and quickly gained 20lbs. I managed to gain 20lbs in 2 months even though every 2 weeks I was hospitalized and NPO for 2-3 days at a time, I honestly don't know how I gained. There was no way I was eating enough to gain that much. 3 months later I"m back on again and hoping to not gain any weight this time around.

I agree with the post above.
The first time I was on pred I put on two and half stone, about 30lbs, and the second time put on a little less. The third time though I only put on 7lbs. I avoided all take aways and very salty foods, drank a lot of water, and kept exercise up if/when I could. If I was hungry (which was all the time) I would have a small amount of what I craved eg. cake/toast/chips and then would have healthy things which fill you up eg. bananas, avacado. Any complex carbs and fruit.
I found olives to be great! they satisfied my salty cravings but arent as un healthy. also, tomatoes. Also fruit ice lollies.
It is so hard but it does get easier once you start to taper down your dose.
I did manage to lose the 7lbs though, once I was off pred, it did take a a couple of months but it did come off.
Hope that helps a bit?!

Only other suggestion I can offer is to structure meals around lean protein, and, for me, low carb steamed vegetables ( I struggle with "salad".. raw lettuce, etc, stirs up CD for me, but lightly cooked seems to be ok)
