Hey, have had crohn's for 12 years now & been well for 6 years up until 2012, where I had 2 severe flare ups, which I think was down to C.Diff. Anyway I'm back on prednisone again :( . When I have previously taken them years ago, I used to take them with this liquid like coating, but now they come already coated. Anyway I think there giving me terrible indigestion, where I'm sick most nights, has anyone else had symptoms?

Hi Jock,

I was on pred when i was first diagnosed back in 2004 and the indigestion i got from them was unbareable. I recall being sat up all night in tears because it was so painful and unfortunatly i never found anything that took the acid away completly but i found the chewable remgel helped a little and the zantac helps slightly (you can get asdas/sainsburys own make for a fraction of the price...it doesnt help that you have to wait 2 hours after taking steroids to take any indigestion relief

Hope this helps
Andie

I know it was the same for me last time I was on them early 2012 & it went on for months until I stopped the course. I don't want it again because it's terrible. I will buy some indigestion relief like you said & I will visit my GP & find out what that liquid coating stuff I've had years ago was, cos I never had any indigestion when using that. I will post on here.

Thanks again.

Hey Jock,

What you are experiencing is a renowned side effect of Prednisone that many people suffer with. Many folk here take what are called PPI's (Proton Pump Inhibitors) to alleviate the problem, with some GI's prescribing them at the outset when they order Prednisone.

There are over the counter preparations available so I would speak with your both the doctor and pharmacist about it to work out what may be best for you.
