Prednisone side effects?

Well it's been 10 days off the Pred, my face has gone down and feeling pretty good, in fact my specialist says I'm in remission! I've heard this before and then flared pretty quickly so I'm taking things a day at a time, but I have to say I'm feeling pretty great right now! I hope it lasts - taking 150mg Aza currently.

That's awesome!

Just curious, how long were you on Pred before you stopped? My last day is scheduled for Feb 19 and that's 9 months after I started.

This last course was 6 weeks - the longest I've been on it was 9 months between October last year and July this year; since then I've been off and on - never had a "remission" that lasted longer than a few weeks, but I really hope now the Aza has finally kicked in (I've been on it for 6 months). Feeling a lot more positive this time. I'm convinced my last flare was triggered by my long flight from the UK to Oz and my jet lag, I got sick as soon as I landed.

If the AZA isn't working, you'd probably feel it by now. In Aug I was tapered off Pred but still took Entocort and Pentasa- within one week I was back in the hospital with excruciating pain. So, to me it seems like your remission is golden. I hope it is a long one this time!

I ask because the longer you're on Pred, the longer it takes for the side effects to go away (at least with me, that's been the case). My first time around was 26 years ago and I was on it for 15 months, then had surgery, then tapered off- which took a while. But it took a month for the moon face to disappear. Your post gave me hope that it might happen sooner this time around. Either way, it's going to be a while yet.

I've been on pred for 9 months now - I am tapered right down now - just having problems getting off the last few without going mental :voodoo:

I started off at 40mg and have tapered down to 15mg where I've been maintaining it. There actually is very little difference between the effectiveness of it at 40mg vs 15mg (though when I went down to 10mg I felt the threshhold pain again, so I've maintained at 15mg). I've just started Humira - as Remicade failed after a year. I'm hoping the Humira will work well.

I started Humira in May and it has started to work for me. My CD is not in remission - but it is so much better than we I flared in April this year. Good luck with Humira

Travel is interesting eh? Each time I go from NZ to UK I end up in a UK hospital - the long haul flights are real hard on my body + that and I will get any infection or bug in the airport or plane. I got told by a doc to wear a mask from the airport till I got home, and change it every three hours. I didnt get sick last time and I did that.
