I have been on 50mg of Prednisone since Wednesday I still have some pain and I have really dark stool  I have no color almost grey (I'm Hispanic so not normal). Are these side effects? I am going to try to see my Dr in the next couple days but has anyone experienced this?

It's not a side effect that I know of, and I've been on that dose many times. Let me ask a few questions so I can get a better idea of what's happening, if that's OK: are you bleeding when you use the restroom? When you say you have no color do you mean you're complexion looks pale? If so, perhaps you are anemic from the Crohn's. I would definitely call your doctor and see what he says about it. Keep us posted, and hope you get some answers soon :)

Dark stool as in almost black? Can you have your doctor test for blood in your stool? I agree that you being pale may have something to do with anemia so have your doctor run blood work to check your iron levels along with having your stool tested for blood.

I'm glad its helping with the pain so far. Are you on any other meds at the moment?

Thank you both for getting back to me so fast. I have struggled with anemia in the past. I just finally got my diagnosis after a 4 year wait. I'm not on any other meds yet I am seeing my GI later this week.

Yes I am very pale, I look like a very sick person I normally look like I have a great tan

I have never experienced a lot of bleeding in my stool mostly just from days of diarrhea. Its black stool for sure I really don't feel like the prednisone has helped with that at all.

I'm so sorry you've been going through this for so long! It is so frustrating when you don't have answers, I know from experience. Black stool indicates bleeding, so I'm sure your doctor will consider adding other medications, but unfortunately it may take a bit longer to get your symptoms under control. When I first had black stools, it took a while for Pentasa and prednisone taken together to work. In the meantime try not to do anything strenuous, don't eat anything with a lot of fiber, and try to keep your stools soft so you won't strain. I would give your doctor a call, just so when you go in the GI is already aware of the situation and will have a game plan for you. Take care, and let us know what you find out.

Black stools are generally a sign of bleeding as mentioned or can even occur with iron supplements. http://ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/otherdiseases/a/blackstool.htm Best to have it tested to be sure. Your doctor can request stool tests from the lab well before your appointment and have the results ready when you see them (or more than likely before then). Just give them a call and request a Fecal occult blood test. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fecal-occult-blood-test/MY00620

Good luck and keep us posted. :)
