Hey everyone. I was diagnosed with Crohn's around one month ago and have just started medication. The doctor started me on Prednisone 10MG tablets which I take 4 pills a day. I have heard some stories from people around me about not being able to sleep or gaining weight. The only thing I have experienced so fat is not being to sleep. Are there any other things I should worry about?

Also, I just started a new blog to share my experiences with Crohn's and new stuff I find. Here's a link if anyone wants to take a look. Thanks.

Hi adidar83,

Have a look at the thread "prednisone and me" that was started by Kev another of our members. It may give you some ideas and you can ask some other questions then..

Also means alot of the thoughts of many of us are already there. Its on the same list as this thread you have started in the Treatment section.

my worst experience with pred was they had me on a high dose while in the hospital last summer, then when I was released they tapered me down way to fast (150mg to 30mg in a matter of days)
this caused lazy eye. and this was miserable. my left eye went to the right for almost 2 months and cause severe headaches. I had to wear an eye patch for most of the days to help regain strength and put as much potassium in my body as possible to help. given I was still sick during this whole ordeal, had no insurance and the hospital was complete uncaring in every way. (even asked how much cash I had in my wallet while I was being discharged)
I'm on hydrocort right now. in my experience it does nothing compared to pred. you notice pred effects within the first 24hr of using it, regardless of dose. I like it mainly for the boost it give me cause I'm a weak thin guy, but I would try to avoid large doses. and please eat a good bit with them cause it send me to the potty on an empty tummy.

according to my GI, no one has ever done a study on how to properly taper off pred.. apparently it's all pretty much anecdotal info or trial N error that the docs use... on top of that, any patients personal reaction or experience can be vastly different than the next. But docs are so 'scared' of the potential bad effects of pred they often try to get their patients off it ASAP. Shame it isn't one of those drugs safe to use over the long term..
