I was diagnosed with crohns last year. Aza, prednisol didnt work so im on infliximab. Ive been doing IVF and have just done my second cycle and am now 5 weeks pregnant - yippee - beeen a long road to get here.

my infliximab at every 8 weeks, together with help from a nutritionist have meant the crohns has been pretty stable the last 3 months or so. But this last week i feel nauseous all the time. I now cant eat and am just having fresubin drinks. This has come on gradually where i could eat last week and gradually got so i cant now. I have plenty of padding so im not going to starve but im worried about baby or crohns. Ive had alot of pains but the clinic say everyone gets pains in the first 3 months. I ate some toast last night and had alot of pain that went after about 10 mins even though my crohns is in my colon - no where near the toast at that point. I have also had to start going to the loo more. Havent got the classic crohns of bleeding though and when i cant eat with crohns im not hungry but now im hungry but feel constantly sick.

Im still on hormone treatment until 12 weeks - progesterone and oestrogen.

I have a scan in 2 weeks to see if twins/single/ectopic etc.

Im having time when im not in pain though and apparently its too early for ectopic anyway.

Im so confused. Im glad i feel nauseous as im convinced its twins but im scared of the stomach pain, going to the loo more and the loss of apetitie. Is this normal in pregnancy? Do the hormones make you go the loo more and be sicky all the time?

Hi Kerry
Sorry i can't help you with any of your symptoms but I was very interested to see that you are on infliximab during your pregnancy. Just wondering how you are getting on with it? I recently started remicade and am hoping to start a family soon as soon as i am healthy enough.

Hi Kerry,

I'm on Humira and 19 weeks pregnant today. I think you'll find the nausea is more likely to be morning sickness kicking in! Mine started at about 5.5 weeks and came on very suddenly, it's still hanging around but nowhere near as bad. I was convinced it was a flare as that's how they usually start for me, however soon realised that I was starving hungry even though I wasn't going far from the loo! With Crohn's, I can't even look at food. The best thing was to eat whatever would stay down (for me it was anything cold/crunchy, or greasy and sloppy ie Hungry Jacks, McDonalds). I also had 10-15kg extra padding before getting pregnant (little Yoda was totally unplanned, I was planning on losing the extra weight before trying for a baby!), and I've ended up losing weight rather than putting it on. My doc isn't worried though as it's not a huge amount (2-500g a week) and I'm eating well.

Can't help with the runs sorry as I had the complete opposite, was going once every 2 days - was a nice change from normal! Some ladies that I've been chatting to who are due around the same time have said that they had the runs for the first few weeks, it's really just dependant on how your body reacts to the hormones. I had a lot of cramping initially too, it's more than likely just bubs getting nice and comfy in there! It settled down around 8-9 weeks for me.

Hope your scan went well, and everything is travelling along nicely!
