prep for colonoscopy

What do you do for colonoscopy prep??

Please help????

Your primary care doctor who orders the colonoscopy will give you a sheet
with a full set of instructions.

It will tell you what to eat for a day or so before the scope
and also when to start taking the cleansing preparation.

Just ask the doc or his nurse..you will get a set of printed instructions.
Not to worry :)

HI i JUST WONDER WHAT OTHERS PREFER. ONE DOCTOR WHO ORDERED MY FIST ONE HAD ME DRINK 2 LITERS OF NU SOMETHING, I HATE IT. THE NEXT HAD PILLS AND PLENTY OF LIQUID, HAVENT DONE IT YET BUT HOPE ITS BETTER.
THANKS A BUNCH, TOM

I use the fleets phospho soda (2 small bottles). Not much to drink at all. I mix it to drink w/ sprite and can't really taste it. I have seen (but not tasted) the big jugs that are also an option.....no thanks!!!! I really don't notice a taste and the small amount of liquid seems to 'do the trick' just as well as the massive amounts.

Over here in the UK, we have to drink Kleenprep, its a foul solution that mixes with about 8 pints of water and you have to drink it all. I once added some dilute/cordial to mit but that has to be clear, no cloudy liquids or food at all. I have had this solution twice and on each occasion I have asked for some other med and they always say that thyey don't use anything else. Can't believe you guys get a choice, we also have to stay awake during the procedure.

I didn't get the two small bottles because the doctor feared it would really mess me up as I was in a very severe flare at the time. I got the gallon jug thing. I got enough down to do the job, but I ended up having to cheat a little to be able to keep the stuff down. Rosie (on the View) just did the pill one and she said it worked really well and was much better than the foul-tasting stuff. In future, I will demand pills because the other was gag-land. Your doctor will advise you. Follow the directions carefully because if you cheat or don't do it thoroughly, you'll just have to do it over. Once the clean-out is over, the rest is totally no big deal. Since the big D is not really abnormal for us, this whole process is not that much worse than eating a large meal. Don't fret.

Hey Ruth,

I had fleet phosphosoda stuff like GoBucks26. Worked well. There is no way I would have Kleenprep! Also had Midazolam and Pethidine for sleepyness and pain. Wot planet is yer cons on then? Sounds like he needs a bit of ear bending done!:)

Tom,

The fleet in a small volume definately did the trick for me. However, I like the idea of the pills I have to say! Anybody know the name of them?

Jan

i used the pills rather than the drink
it is still hard-you will feel horrible for the day of the prep-but-after test-you get back to normal fast
the pills were "easier" for me

I got a big gallon of gross salty sweaty gasoline-y slimy grossness :)... I tried really hard to get it down, but I only drank a third of it. It was really hard because I had two big glasses of barium "smoothie" in me from the CT scan they had done on me earlier in the day. Luckily I hadn't eaten much in the past few days anyways and I was clean enough to scope. I will DEFINITELY go for the pills next time.

Oh and if you get a liquid prep... don't mix it with any drinks that you like because more than likely you won't like them later... I cant handle sodas or lemonade now.

Hi Ruth,

Yeah, KleenPrep really sucks - big time. Totally disgusting and unmaskable taste that is quite unforgetable. Finishing off such a large quantity is almost impossible too.
