I've Been on prilosec 40mg daily now for over 3 weeks it has relieved most of my symptoms all except the lump in my throat, excess mucus, and bloating. Should I still experiencing these symptoms after being on prilosec this long?

I would recommend discussing that with the doctor who prescribed it since they know your condition. This forum is more for support and advice but we can't really address specific medical questions.

No this is extra intestinal manifestations like acid reflux thread? The support thread is at the home page. If u don't have anything helpful to add about this topic then please don't post on my thread. Thank you

There is no reason to be rude, I am trying to tell you that it's in your best interest to seek medical advice about your condition from someone who knows your medical history. The entire forum is a support forum in nature but we do answer generic questions that would apply to all like facts about drug side effects and we share experiences.

Jison0612 there very well may be something else going on that the Prilosec cannot help. I was given Prilosec myself for what I thought was acid reflux and apparently so did my doctors but about a week later I went to the ER because I had an obstruction (those and partial ones can cause bloating). While I still take the Prilosec as it does help with the acid reflux I do actually have (wasn't just the obstruction, my symptoms just increased because of the obstruction which prompted me to try and get someone to finally treat the acid reflux), if my symptoms increased now or some did not go away I'd let my doctor know so they can figure out what's actually going on.

Some time has passed since you posted, how are you feeling now?

My mom had something similar to this, but I forgot what she said its called, its not GERD but something similar, I will ask her tomorrow what its called. That may be able to point you in the right direction

Well my upper back is killing me and my stomach is burning and grawling and I'm short of breath still cause of chest tightness or something like that? It feels like I always got something in my throat but my upper back pain is almost unbearable!!!!!

Have you been checked for the different types of arthritis that is associated with Crohns? I have done some research because my back hips and knees are awful, and sometimes its very difficult to breath. I found out that some types of arthritis that affect the spine can cause your ribs to become inflamed making it hard for your lungs to expand.

Jison is this not Acid or Bile reflux in the gut, I had this what your describing quite a few years ago, in the end I had to have stomach emptying meds I think sucralfate, Mistoprosol, Metrocloperamide, and two other drugs, just to get me comfortable, I think my stomach was full of Acid and Bile which was not emptying quick enough, Have you got silent reflux? Is it coming up into your oesophagus? Mine is,nt but then I did have to have that Stomach Acid operation a out 6 years ago.
I cannot take questran or loperamide, I think this is what has caused this problem, cos I never had my above problem till I started having those, also I keep getting Magnesium deficiancy which is not helping.
Do what I am doing, and get back to see you medical advisor, it's bad enough having gut problems, continually without having to put up with extra manifestations.

Keep in mind that what works for one person does not necessarily work for another. Crohns is a very complicated disease and is different for engine in every aspect.

I'm calling my gi dr today to tell him all that's been going on to add to my acid reflux I have no appitite I'm down to 205pounds from 245 I'm having horrible anxiety and depression cause of all this my stomach is constantly upset and my upper back is killing me!!!!! May be all from anxiety Idk but all I do know is I'm done with this it's time for a hospital visit to get all this straightened out and get me some rest finally oh yeah I'm not sleeping at night either

I hope your GI is able to straighten things out. The symptoms you describe are some of the ones that my son experienced with his first flare, except his back pain was lower down. Especially, the chest tightening, lump in throat and all it took him starting Remicade to get all of those symptoms stopped.

I hope you find some relief soon.

Hi Jison, I don't blame you, you like myself have to get it sorted,as I said I have real bad burning in my stomach, cannot hardly move it's that painful, My I.B.D nurse phone me back 2 hours ago, I described all my symptons,by the way I did have the lump in my throat problem two weeks ago, that is called Globulas, it is from being anxious,I went to see a Globulas therapist and she told me slow down my breathing, and got me doing breathing excercises, it has now miraculously disappeared.
She did say that mine does sound like probably minor ulcers in my stomach, mainly due they now know from having abdominal surgery. It happens to some people ,but not all,in turn the symptons cause an anxiety problem, which in turn again produces more acid and Bile, mix all this up with excess wind that it also causes and you have symptons of Globus, heartburn, burning in the stomach, upper backache and everything thrown in the pot.
She has told me to stop my immunosuppressants for a couple of days which are azathioprine which she said could slightly make the situation worse, also steroids she said and ibuprofen drugs, aspirin as well.i then have to continue with my PPI x 2 daily and in between every two hours take Gaviscon which is an antacid liquid to coat everything inside.
You may have that also in America or an equivalent. She also said as hard as it may seem,I have to forget about ,by doing that I won't get anxious and the acid will not keep reproducing, also she did say its important to eat alkaline foods, little, every two hours.
I am to ring her back next Monday and if that fails she will book me in as an Emergency in the clinic next Tuesday,Our Gastro clinics are every Tuesday at the hospital I attend,
She said they will then decide whether I need an endoscopy. by the way all my bloods came back ,everything within normal limits, HB 128,magnesium(which I am normal deficiant )is now at normal limit 0.71 and CRP completely normal.
Try some of these things out Jison,I certainly am.
She did ask me if the pain goes with painkillers, I said no Paracetomol does not touch it.
She did say normally painkillers do not work if it's acid.

Thanks so much trish22 that was very helpful and I'm glad I'm not alone with my symptoms. I am positive a lot of my issues r coming from my duodenal ulcer and my anxiety is making things a thousand times worse it's a vicious cycle that I gotta break it's gonna be a long road living with Crohn's if I don't nip this health anxiety in the butt ASAP

Jison, I have lived with Crohns for 40 years, and believe me anxiety still haunts me everyday regarding this god dam illness, I am surprised I have all this acid business, if it is that,as I have had the operation for it! but I am going with what the IBD nurse said that after operations people do get this sort of thing,it has become a well known thing, and she also knows that I am an extremely anxious person, you are not on your own ,believe me, I get one mad pain and I imagine all sorts of illnesses I have starting up.
If you have a duodenal ulcer I bet that's what's giving you hassle, cos I know the last episode of this I had,I felt as tho someone was stabbing me in just below my shoulder blades,it went from the middle of my chest straight the way through, this time my pain is slightly to the left, but defintley stomach orientated.i think the only way we can mask this is use our Proton pump inhibitors and keep washing antacid liquid down our throats.
She also told me (although I do not drink fizzy)stay away from coke, and stick to diluted fruit drinks, keep everything alkaline and not acidic, you will also find on the Internet loads of Alkaline foods and Acidic food to steer clear of, Although saying that us as Crohnies should know what are good and what are bad foods.
I wish you the very best and will look in and see how your holding up, I will do the same and will defintley let you know how I get on if I am referred on Monday to the clinic on Tuesday,
Keep busy, forget about your problem for a while

R u on anything for ur anxiety? The er dr put me on celexa but I'm not a big fan I the way it makes my head feel right now I've only been on it for 4 days but it's making me feel weird.

No, I have tried different anxiety meds and was asleep most of the day, so I paid and did a course of Transcendental Meditation, it cost quite a lot of money but so glad I did it, it takes 20 mins in the morning and 20mins in the evening,
I then found NSR on the Internet, wished I had seen this first,it costs 25 dollars as a opposed to £500 and it's 99% identical.
You should read into it and give it a go, I am not a religious person or anything but this meditative yoga is excellent for people like us, really
Have a look at NSR meditation on the net and have a read.
I also have coconut oil 3 tablespoonfuls a day and Kefir drink which I have been making myself with Kefir grains the last few days, another simple thing to make and brilliant for our digestive systems.
