Just wondering how may people are on probiotics?? Sounds like the one's to buy are the ones that are refridgerated at the pharmacy, my doc really didn't seem to have an opinion on them, it doesn't seem like taking it would hurt, my insides need all the help they can get! What do people take, does it seem to help, and how much do you take.. Thanks, Jenn

Jenn I highly recommend them! Make sure to get a non-dairy probiotic formula only. Probiotics are wonderful friendly bacteria. Crohn's patients are shown to have lots of the bad bacteria, so we need the good guys in there to fight them off.

I take the Garden of Life HSO probiotic, but any probiotic that is non-dairy and has over 1 billion cultures should be fine.

I have mixed feelings on these. From the studies I've read they do seem to help keep you in remission for a bit longer, though there are multiple types and only one was tested. Others caused diarrhea.

As I believe the intestines to work its the large bowel that contains the bacteria. So how people with terminal ileum problems would see any benefit I do not know. Which seems to make sense that the bacteria mainly stay in the large intestine based upon the research that was released not too long ago that maked them believe the appendix may store helpful bacteria.

It's a little more complicated than this. It's more of an imbalance between the two primary types of bacteria. Both are essential.

Just wondering cuz my GI was very specific in taking Ensure Plus which as far as I can tell just has prebiotics as a difference from the regular one...oh and 100 extra calories. Was thinking maybe the prebiotics was why he insisted on the Plus version.

The Plus has more protein, more calories, more carbs, and more healthy fats, and is lactose free...it may even have more nutrients and vitamins, but since I'm not lacking in that area too much I didn't pay attention to the readout differences when I compared the two side by side...did notice the other things I mentioned though....With your weight loss issues the Plus is easily the better for you, don't know if you have lactose issues though.

yeah milk really upsets my system...aweful gas and tummy upset, started when I was in highschool. When I was younger use to drink whole milk everyday.

Do you have to buy the expensive little drinks for this or would orangic live yogurt have the same effect?

My family have been pushing me to buy the little drinks but i've always thought they was a gimmick

you need billions of these guys, a yogurt wouldn't contain that. so id recommend a non-dairy probiotic formula or capsule.

Probiotics

I've been taking probiotics recently and they seem to have helped. My GI recommended this course of action and wants to monitor things for a while. So far so good!
